    James Toney is finished. He could barely even stand up straight vs lebedev, off balance all over the place. James will always be the better all time great though.

    Never know, toney even in his ****ed up state could still take Bhop out. Hopkins would b up against a superior boxer in toney.

    Well James hurt his knee in the first round and fought another 11 rounds on one leg, he took a beating and it's a miracle he didn't go down. It's also a testimony to his toughness.

    But you're right, James is finished, his body is a mess

    No, James is too shop worn, and I doubt he can ever get into a halfway decent shape again... B-Hop is still one of the best fighters out there.

    But I agree that Toney, on his best night, in good shape, at MW or SMW, would have beaten B-Hop, because he was the better pure boxer.
    B-Hop still ranks higher in the ATG rankings because of his longevity though, B-Hop did everything right where James made the wrong decisions.

    Toney is one of the most overrated guys ever, in terms of legacy and ATG he isn't anywhere near Hopkins..... Toney will be remembered forever as a blown up MW/SMW that beat an over the hill Holyfield and a few journeyman at HW. His resume at MW/SMW is a joke.

    He was lucky against Tiberi. That's about it as far as 'collecting gifts'.
    He got robbed a few times too

    Shame this fight never happened in Aug 2003 as it should have. Would have been a great fight, Toney had just beaten Jirov and seemed to take the sport seriously again for the first time since losing to Jones Jr.

    The fight now would be a mismatch whatever weight it was fought at. Toney is shot too pieces and is a shadow of his former self.

    There are several threads on here breaking down his crappy resume at MW/SMW, if you can't be bothered to do a quick search for them then just go to boxrec.

    this thread was more meant as a joke. I was a big fan of Toney, he's an ATG, but he's done for years

    Yet he has a better win at middleweight than Hopkins ever had. MichaelNunn is better than anybody Hopkins beat at the weight

    Maybe that's the problem of a lot of posters on here, they go on boxrec, look at the numbers and make up their mind about this or that fighter. Instead of watching the fights, and knowing the opponents. That way, everybodys resume can be broken down and made look bad.
    I don't post about fighters that I haven't seen at least 3/4 of their televised fights.

    BTW, Toneys resume at MW/SMW was pretty good. He looked terrible against Tiberi and Roy Jones, but he beat some solid to very good opposition too. The journeymen he fought in between his title-defences were mostly stay busy fights at LHW, they don't really count. His title-defences were all against good opponents - Michael Nunn, Mike McCallum twice, Reggie Johnsen, Doug De Witt, Iran Barkley, Tony Thornton, Tim Littles, Charles Williams, all quality fighters. Better than most of this era. And all in just 3 years. How is that a crappy resume?
