Slapper and a brawler???? Sheika, Mitchell, Brewer, Lacy, Pudwill....sent all those lame ass over hyped yank asses back to their homeland whooped and beaten.....he has way more attacking skill than hopkins, way more speed....a great chin and hasn't been beaten......unless hopkins gets a shocking malignaggi style hometown decision he can never beat Calzaghe....unless he knocks him out like Jones Jr says....but he can't do that....Joe isn't a light middle like De la Hoya so he ain't gonna stop him, and don't hit as hard as Kessler or Lacy so he aint gonna KO him....just THINK about it will you. IF JOE WAS FROM THE U.S.A YOU'D ALL HAVE YOUR DICKS UP HIS ASS SO SHUSH UP
I'll second that. But don't think for one moment that Calzaghe will dominate Hopkins to the absturd degree that most on ESB tend to think. I would say Wright is as equally awkward as Calzaghe, although maybe less effective. Sure, Wright wasn't a natural light-heavyweight, but Hopkins never exactly made him look like a dwarf. IMO, it looked like one division seperated them when they squared off. Calzaghe isn't busy during every round, not for every fight. He never moved into 5th gear until after the 6th round of the Kessler fight. That aside, he was probably slightly ahead after the first 6 rounds. The Lacy fight showed Calzaghe firing on all cylinders regarding workrate, and some others. Here is an interesting thing. I think Hopkins likes pressure. His counter-punching style, defensive awareness, and boxing ability is suited to opponents who come forward. The cat and mouse game he doesn't like. He's very unsure during those moments when he's got a mirror image in front of him. Taylor over both fights stood off Hopkins cautiously. He won those fights with slightly more workrate. If Calzaghe comes forward and tries to outwork Hopkins he might well be playing into Hopkins' hands.
Sadly I agree. I know a few on here will give credit where credit is due. But many others will refuse. Even if its a clear UD. I can already think of at least 20+ posters off the top of my head who will call it a robbery/hometown decision/biased american judging/etc. Others will say Hopkins should have been DQ for fighting dirty (especially considering I KNOW, many of them have never seen him fight...and will be SHOCKED at how dirty he really is). I can see it all now. :-(
People say that if Hopkins beats Joe, he will get little credit, because people will take Joe for being overrated. But those same people are the ones who will say "Big deal, Calzaghe beat an old Hopkins, I knew he would, I just didn't wanna go against my boy" when the time comes. Joe by UD.
I like Calzaghe on points, but here's a nice interview by Hopkins. Enjoy. http://youtube.com/watch?v=zmurs39pFQs
