Damn straight. I hate all this ''Larry Merchant just tells it like it is, asks the questions no-one else does'' He's been an ill-mannered, ignorant c*nt on several occasions. He just wants to see two guys bash each others brains in for his own entertainment.
I've disliked merchant all the way back to the time when he said " this sucks" during DLH's ring entrance.
Merchant is a jerk off in that interview. Completely degrading and calling out Hopkins. Showing no respect.
That was much disrespect to Hopkins.... I thought Hopkins covered it well though, he won that argument, Larry is a *****.
He didn't say he didn't care about the money. He said that he had to take care of his mandatory or they would strip him of his belt. Then he said, now that the mandatory is out of the way, they can talk about who he wants to fight. Even if this fight didn't make him a whole lot of money, it let him keep his belt which lets him make higher paying fights.
This is why I laugh with joy everytime I see the post fight interview after Baldomire where Money put Larry the drunk in his place in front of millions on national primetime television :rofl
Sure you gat 2 be kidding me if this is to diminuish Bernard Hopkins for anything. Bernard had to take on Morrade Hakkar in his own Philly and the former European Champion originally from Algeria and based in France just ran and fell apart. How come Nard got payed for not doing much??? Basically Larry tried to create an issue and some excitement in a boring night sending messages to Bernard that HBO wouldn't broadcast another one of those... Larry even debated about Nard calling out Hoya and Vargas but it goes down the line that Hoya did meet Nard even after looking very bad in a previous two fight broadcast which was Sturm-Hoya for the WBO title and Hops-Allen III. Actually Merchant and Hopkins have a great deal of admiration for each other.
Lol Merchant got owned bigtime imo. And that was some weak, ignorant **** to say "isn't it embarassing for the MW champ to be calling out JMW's?". lol Carlos Monzon fought WW's Emile Griffith and Jose Napoles, Marvin Hagler fought the greatest LIGHTWEIGHT Roberto Duran, Jake LaMotta lost his MW title to WW champ Ray Robinson, and Hopkins' own breakthrough fight came against former WW and JMW champ Trinidad who'd had only one MW fight. Merchant has given Hopkins credit at times, like after his fights with Echols, Trinidad, Tarver and Pavlik, but he's also shown some unreasonably heavy bias against him, most evidently to me during the Hopkins-de la Hoya fight. First round's going on, neither guy has thrown more than 2-3 punches and nothing serious, Larry says: in the rythm we can see so far, de la Hoya has been beating Hopkins to the punch. In reality Hopkins was the only guy at that point who had even made any kind of contact. After 6 rounds he says: I have Oscar winning the fight, 4 rounds to 1 with 1 even. LOL Put the bottle down Larry. And while you're at it, put the mic down along with it.
