Both men have to take the blame for this, with maybe a bit more of it laid at Hopkins door. His demands were fairly unrealistic. Hopkins wanted a 50/50 split and a catchweight? Jones should of offered him one or the other. Live on HBO, when they're having the argument, Jones should of simply told Bernard that he'll give him a 50/50 split at 175 or Hopkins gets his catchweight but only 40%. Either way the onus was on Hopkins to do more to make that fight.

Lets be honest about this, neither man wanted this fight to happen, they both new they could make great money through far easier match ups.

Jones knew he could keep fighting the string of bums on HBO and Hopkins new that he could keep dragging the likes of Trinidad and ODLH up to 160 and keep collecting big money for easy fights. If I'm not mistaken I think Hopkins tried dragging mosley up to 160 as well.

As a neutral I always got the impression that it was Hopkins who didnt want it.
Jones had won the first fight, was the far bigger draw, was the bigger name and yet Hopkins thought he was due a 50/50 split to challenge the champ.
I expect Hopkins took lesser money fight Oscar and Tito, but they were smaller fighters.
Remember Hopkins was calling out Mosely, Margarito, Mayorga, De La Hoya and remember Hopkins was inside the CW limit on his debut.

Hopkins seemed to have a style weakness to two handed fighters his own size and Jones fitted that description

I'm a B Hop fan but he wasn't serious about making this fight happen

    Roy would've beaten him again

Maybe part of Hopkins ducking tactics were because he feared Jones was juicing in a similar way to Money May not making the Pacman fight because he truely believed Pac was on PED's?

You just made the point for why Hopkins 50/50 demand was ridiculous.

And who are all the 'great names' on Hopkins resume between the loss to Jones and his demand for a rematch? One big win against a blown-up Welter was his only leverage.

    Great post mate!

They should have talked again, and tried to work something out, like what you've just mentioned, or something similar. But I think Bernard blew is chance, right at the start of the interview, when he originally wanted the bigger share, and not even 50/50. That immediately got Roy's back up, and it was the beginning of the end.

    Regards, Loudon.
