Ive yet to see a 160 lb fighter that Id pick over the Robinson of the 51 massacre.

Robinson was beautiful on that night & any Hopkins would get beat IMHO & dare I say even stopped in a 15 rounder.

Inconsistency wont be a factor if its both men from a certain night - their best night.

Hey, I agree. That post was somewhat a dumb one from me earlier.

Hopkins was good enough to give any Middle a very close call, but his 160lbs competition was not that stellar by and large. The Ray of the Valentines fight wins by dec ,imo.

Hopkins has the tools to hand Robinson a defeat at Middleweight.

Hopkins has fallen short every time he's come up against anyone anywhere approaching the talent and versatility of Robinson - ie: Roy, Taylor, Calzaghe. I think the key is that Robby would force him to lead more than he's comfortable with, and could step back and counter him when he tries to move in and impose his holding/infighting tactics on him.

Robby finishes strong to take the fight by UD.

Hopkins is one of , if not the most intelligent middleweight champion that the division has ever seen. He had the smarts and the ability to defeat robinson, who was less than his best at middleweight. I say that hopkins outpoints robinson in a close fight, even though a robinson win is certainly not out of the question.

Ray Robinson would win a close but clear decision especially over 15 and especially with those judges they had for him in his fights as champion. I think Ray wins by going forward, keeping busy, and holding his own up close. Remember, all those sneaky tactics Hopkins has would not have been considered sneaky in Ray's time, they would have simply been considered as punching inside. Ray was also very adept at this, and would have given as good as he got, in my opinion.

On his best night Robinson wins this one. Are we talking about 40+ year old Robinson? He had lost a lot by then.

SRR ws great...But he seems to be rated as unbeatable by anyone ever period! I believe he could be beaten, but not easily...even more so at MW...I will take the PhillyBoy B-Hop in a UD.
