I am very sure this has been done before but after watching that Robinson video it got me thinking about it.
Who would win in a match at MW and LHW?
Please break it down. Older posters are very welcome. It would be great to have someone who actually watched Robinson fight have some input.

At 160 I give it to Robinson by UD 15. Robinson has faster hands and hits just as hard at Middleweight as Hopkins. Robinson also has better foot work and a higher work rate then Hopkins. At 175 I lean towards Hopkins because he is a bigger man naturaly then Robinson. At 175 Robinson loses a step in quickness and speed and becomes the less powerful man. Hopkins probably gains some strength and stamina from the extra weight and gains the edge for a close UD win. I think Robinson overall is the better fighter and at 160 or lower Robinson beats Hopkins.

If they fought 5 times Robinson would win at least 3

I think Robinson had MORE power than Hop...BH has a pretty shallow knockout record and most have been by accumulation or against little guys like DLH or Tito...Robinson was a one punch knockout guy with either hand....

Hopkins had the chin, the defense, and the ring intelligence, coupled with his size advantage, to give Robinson hell. This would be an excellent fight with Hopkins winning a decision. Twelve or fifteen rounds, it won't be a cause for concern.

Hopkins had very solid punching power in his prime, and even now isn't bad. He just never has had to rely on it, finding other ways to win, using his smarts.

Edit: Both have enough power to get respect from the other, and both have the chins to take the other's shots.

another interesting angle is theya re both hell for the other...hop has always had trouble with fast handed guys like roy, JC and even Taylors handspeed seemed to trouble him...similarly Robinson didn't do as well with awkward, slick guys (turpin for example) and they don't come much more so than BH

I think the fight would be different at 160 and at 175 but both would be competitive fights that could go either way really! At 160 I'd favor Sugar Ray because the quickeness and speed would be more than BHOP...At 175 I like BHOP cuz he IMO would be a bigger man and the Sugar wasn't the same Sugar at 175 that he was at 160

    160 Robinson UD
    175 BHOP UD

This would be a cracking fight, hopkins is a master of neutrilzing his opponents strenghts with his defensive skills, the way he took pavliks jab and tito's left hook away from them was masterful, however in robinson he is facing a fighter who in my opinion has the most varied and deadly arsenal in the history of the sport, a fighter that could throw every punch and did so with evil intentions.

At his very very best at middle i think robinson would take this by UD, hopkins is great at dictating the pace but i'm not sure he would dictate it with robinson, ray's speed of hand and variation of punches coupled with his flawless footwork would lead me to suspect he will cause bernard no end of problems as i fell bernard was weakest against fast quicksilver fighters. If hopkins can get through robinson's punches and uses his superior physical strength and makes this a brawl on the inside i fancy his chances better, if robinson keeps it at mainly mid range like i suspect he would he would win

Hopkins could always pretend he was hit low or talk **** about how hard his life was during the hard rounds. Hey all i done is watch both these on dvd and my guess is that The sugar man smacks the **** out of Bernard and any talk otherwise IMO is insane.

H2H , Hopkins easily ... too big , too strong. In terms of Legacy we all know who is better, but you just can't compare fighters from eras are distance as these two... too many things are different nowadays in terms of training and technology... If SRR was a modern day fighter with modern day training technology , then I would favor him.

You have to choose which Hopkins you want though; early career Hopkins who could go the full twelve with no problem and hit with vicious intent, but who was not as defensively saavy as he would later be OR late career Hopkins who is an excellent ring general but has problems with guys who have high workrate (ie: Calzaghe) and doesn't punch with the authority he once did.

I think that SRR beats the crap out of the first version and wins a handy decision over the second version.

SRR: power in both hands, great chin, lightning speed, amazing footwork, buckets of stamina, brilliant combination puncher, great timing and great accuracy.....in his prime he is virtually unbeatable (modern techniques or not)

You've clearly never seen either of them, and you don't own a DVD player to boot.
