Bernard Hopkins was a beast in his prime

The 1st part of your post is misleading.He "lost" a controversial split decision to Leonard even after Leonard has PUBLICLY admitted he waited for Hagler's downward slide.2nd,you consider Tarver a better win than all 3 of the smaller men even though Tarver lost the 1st time he fought shot Jones before he fought Bernard?Serious?As far Pavlik and Pascal are concerned,Pavlik has also been exposed by Sergio Martinez,and well Pascal is just Pascal.But those 2 wins are better than Trinidad?Serious?And you mentioned Wright as I did beforehand,but his best weight was 154,but,I'm not sure because it's been awhile,but I'm almost certain their fight was at 170.And as far as Trinidad "murdering middleweights" before he fought B-Hop,the only middleweight that he murdered before fighting Hopkins was William Joppy,hardly anyone's pick as a great fighter.The Trinidad victory was an excellent victory for Hopkins as Felix was the big favorite in the fight(I dunno why,as Bernard was in the middle of his record title defense reign and Felix had only beaten one middleweight beforehand),but the fact is that Bernard was naturally bigger.

Hopkins was always an economical fighter who knew how to exploit his opponents weaknesses. Speed were always his weakness as Jones and Taylor and Calzaghe showed us. If Dawson is smart he will use speed and win rounds.

I'll grant you DLH and Trinidad being his two biggest win from a financial standpoint, but no way is Winky considered a bigger win than Tarver, Pascal, or Pavlik.

Hagler may be a better MIDDLEWEIGHT than Hopkins, but I put Hopkins P4P above Hagler because of his body of work at light-heavy. Especially if he ends up beating Dawson.

 

I don't know why this Clinton guy has such a huge problem with Hopkins, but he's totally wrong about a few things:

Tarver and Pavlik, based on his age, what people expected, and what his opponents had accomplished up to that point, were better wins than Trinidad and DelaHoya.


BUT.. that Trindad victory wasn't a bad one, because as someone mentioned earlier, up to that point, Felix had been straight ****in middle weight fighters up before he met Hop.

Hopkins in his early career was indeed a killer in the ring he didn't have the name executioner for nothing. His KO of Lipsey was always an alltime favorite of mine.
