He'd have to do it early, and not get caught himself

For me to lay down money on Hopkins getting stopped, it would have to be a real heavyweight puncher in front of him, and nothing less than that. Foster, Spinks, Moore and Moorer have a chance, but i'd bet on him going the distance with them.

Just to remind all of you, most of Hopkins' middleweight opposition were already at 175 by fight night, Tarver, Calzaghe et al weighed in the 180's.

Hopkins is one of those fighters, like Ali, who not only has an outstanding chin, but also all of the defensive tools and survival instinct to make sure he'll never get KO'd.

Dwight Muhammad Qawi would stop him imo. But it will depend on the ref. Hopkins may survive if the ref is lax and allows him to hold, or he might get DQ'ed if the ref doesn't allow him to hold on and he does so anyway.

I seriously question that statement for fighters such as Echols, Council, Brown, Holmes, John David Jackson and De La Hoya. In fact just about all of his middleweight opposition. I think Taylor would come close but I know he was only 171 for their first fight come fight night.

And even by that Logic lightheavy monsters such as Foster and Moorer would be almost at heavy by fight night if they blew up that much.

I dunno man, but look at it the other way i sure as hell wouldn't bet my life on him not getting stopped by multitude of very good\great light heavies when he was unable to contain a 36 year old calzaghe without going into full spoiler mode for the second half of the bout.

The old light heavy Hopkins will always excel against the straight line slow paced plodders, even natural light heavy ones, but as Calzaghe showed he'd be in deep **** against much better light heavies than Joe, that will set a fast pace from start to finish.

He might not get laid flat out by many, but i can see a good number of ref interventions or corner retirements as he hits the wall late on.

Qawi vs Hopkins would make the fights with a worn Saad look tame.

True. His stance makes it so hard for anyone to hit him flush though, let alone 2 or 3 (because I don't think one punch could floor him).

Nobody south of 175 is stopping Hopkins.

Even at 175, I wouldn't bet on anybody.

We should keep in mind that we never saw prime Hopkins at 175, too.

I think Michael Spinks would have the best shot with his overall awkwardness couple with his power.

At 160 i would say no one, i'd give robinson the best chance, he's the only one i could see that could land enough and if he can take out fullmer its possible but highly unlikely

    168- No one

175- I would give decent chances to charles, foster, spinks and langford
