If Hopkins somehow manages to legitimately defeat Kovalev, I'll be the first one here giving him credit. If Kovalev beats Hopkins will you be here to give him credit for his victory? Or will you evacuate these threads and make excuses? :think

Hopkins is a Potemkin village, just waiting to be deconstructed.

what on earth could you mean by that? It doesn't even make a little bit of sense. You must have picked up that Potemkin expression without quite understanding it.

Perhaps your room temperature I.Q. is the issue?:-(

Maybe. But I doubt it. Hopkins wouldn't have chased this fight if he thought he was just going to receive the beating that you and so many others are predicting for him. He could have milked his titles beating sub-par competition and defending it into his 50s. He put that aspect at risk, daring to be great yet again, by taking on another perceived monster power puncher.

Whoever wins this fight will do so with footwork to control the distance. Hopkins, I believe, has Kovalev beat on this front, and perhaps comfortably, but more worrying for Kovalev, I think, is the fact Bernard will likely have an edge in handspeed and almost certainly with stamina down the stretch.

Now if Kovalev has better footwork than I've seen, and if his hands are faster than I'm expecting compared to Bernard, then a beating could well be in order as you predict.

We'll know the truth soon enough!

    :good

I never described him as "slow". But I do think Hopkins has faster hands superior footwork. To beat Hopkins, the first thing you have to be able to do is neutralize his uncanny ability to control the distance. If you can't do that, and I don't believe Kovalev can, then you have some big problems on your hands. Of course Kovalev does have tremendous power, no question, so he may be able to still land something big. But Bernard's best asset is usually neutralizing his opponent's best strength, and when that happens to be monster power (that goes in conjunction with the deficit slower hand speed than Hopkins), he's banking on a long shot.

I'll be here whatever the outcome. If Kovalev legitimately beats Bernard I'll be the first to congratulate him. In every fight I watch I want to see the best man on the night win & get the victory

Calzaghe dominated Hopkins. He brought the fight to him the whole 12 rounds and Bernard turned it into a dirty boring stink fest with headbutts, elbows and stalling tactics. When Hopkins started to gas out late in the fight he had to a fake low blow from a legit body shot to recover and stall. I can't see how anyone could have given that fight to Hopkins based on his performance in the ring.

Just as I suspected. Butt hurt in the extreme.

You go to bed at night thinking about Joe bouncing 8 punch combo's on Lacy gormless dome.

You have nightmares about Hopkins trying to quit when he found Calzaghe was just too much, even in Hopkins own country.

You wake up screaming thinking about the clinic Calzaghe put on against Jones in the USA.

No, Hopkins will not win. I'm mainly curious to see if Hopkins can finish on his feet. Kovalev is eventually going to time Hopkins and land something big or crack Hopkins' ribcage.

I believe Kovalev is mentally strong enough to not be affected by Hopkins' head games.

But how will Kovalev deal with B-Hops illegal head butts?

To those who think Kovalev is somehow going to win on Nov. 8th, please explain to me how that fight will be different from this fight:

What does Kovalev have that Tarver didn't have?

Kovalev is my pick to win on points. But the closer the fight gets the more I think or perhaps hope BHop can once again defy father time.

Kovalev doesn't have the typical style that gives BHop problems but BHop has declined and declined a lot based upon recent performances and he is now facing the number 1 light heavy not a Murat or a Shumenov.
