Just before the Floyd Mayweather vs Ricky Hatton fight..

"I made a topic, which consisted of a technical break down of my prediction....and how Floyd Mayweather was going to defeat Ricky Hatton"

    http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31533

"I called in....Def Con 5 Lights Out...the second coming of James Toney. Inside in the pocket old school style fight, shoulder rolling etc"

And this is how Bernard Hopkins is going to defeat Joe Calzaghe..up close in the pocket...James Toney style fighting. When a fighter like Bernard Hopkins comes to a fight..he comes with a game plan.

    Bernard Hopkins was asked..

    "Do you ever get scared..?"

    He replied..

"I don't know what fear is...but i know what awareness is...i think fear kills you"

Bernard Hopkins is aware of Joe Calzaghes work rate..

Bernard Hopkins is aware of Joe Calzaghes speed...

Bernard Hopkins is aware of Joe Cazaghes movement and mobility..

He is not going to beat Joe Calzaghe...like he beat Felix Trinidad with movement and punishing brutal boxing.

"Because Joe Calzaghe has the equalizer...he is fast...and has great movement"

So just like Floyd Mayweather..Bernard Hopkins has to take this into "Def Con Lights Out"...James Toney style inside in the pocket fighting.."It i defensive inside fighting"

Bernard Hopkins can fight in this manner....he showed flashes of this style against Felix Trinidad etc...

Joe Calzaghe is going to have no choice but to come forward and find Bernard Hopkins..because from a distance...

"Bernard Hopkins is hard to hit..very hard to land a clean affective power shot"

So.......Joe Calzaghe is going to come forward throwing combinations with immense work rate...he will have success.

"But Bernard Hopkins will have that "James Toney" style inside fighting game...he will land 1 - 2 punches to every one of Joe Calzaghes 5-6.

    The only difference is...

"Bernard Hopkins punches will be power punches..the kind of shots that break bones..the kind of shots that knock fighters off balance"

    "1 body shot....from Bernard Hopkins"

    "1 power punch head shot"...

Make no doubt about it...Joe Calzgahe is the best fighter Bernard Hopkins has ever faced.

Bernard Hopkins has to fight his greatest technical fight ever...

    "Def Con 5 Lights out"

    12 round...split decision...Win for Bernard Hopkins.

    I like your analysis.

I don't see the fight going that way however. I tend to believe that Nard will fight from the back foot, always forcing Calzaghe to lunge with his punches. Calzaghe's a good mover in an out, but he's got shitty balance. If Bernard can circle him he's going to nullify the speed of Calzaghe's feet by taking away his balance. Moving in an out quick vs. a stand up in and out guy like Kessler is one thing, but doing so vs. a slick mover like Bernard is another.

He'll fight inside in spots, a bit like he did vs. Tarver, but most of the time he'll make sure to cut Calzaghe's work rate and to disrupt his rythm with movement.

The plan you propose is a winning plan though, I just don't think Bernard will opt for that, although his muscle frame suggests he's planning to wrestle a lot with Calzaghe.

Kick ass Mr Kool. I like it, but I have foreseen in a dream that Hops is gonna stun the **** out of Calz while he's trying too hard to impress Americans, and Hops is gonna close the show in the 9th.

I feel you dream might prove profectic. I know Joe has an iron chin but he's going to get knocked around a lot in there. And hopkins is clearly a lot stronger then him. SO I can see him getting beaten up and stopped.

I'm still picking Joe but certianly less confident then I was before.

I've been predicting the 9th also.

    Why?

I think Bernard has trained to seize the opportunities Calzaghe will present him with. His performance will look a lot like Mayweather's vs. Hatton. He will break Calzaghe down slowly, will lure Calzaghe into becoming the aggressor (and careless), and will strike hard and accurately.

Bernard Hopkins is also going to take this into that alley..

"The Alley he said he could take Felix Trinidad down"

That Alley somewhere in a Ghetto...where rough house tatics go down real bad.

    "Head butts..Elbows.."

Joe Calzaghe may be cut...he can't just come runing in throwing "A Million punches..with his head in the air"

"Bernard Hopkins will butt him...and follow up with a body shot"

I had a dream that Hopkins would catch Calzaghe like he did Tarver and knock him out....but I had drank a lot the night before. I did also have a dream where Mayweather flattened Hatton with a big counter though, except in the dream it happened early on in the fight :think

So you're saying that Calzaghe is going to have success at throwing combinations and will outland Hopkins (at least) 3 to 1.... Yet still you predict a SD win for Hopkins.

    What gives? :think

I hear ya, and I kind of hope so. It's not a popular prediction and is one that will either make me look like a genius or a complete ****.

Yes sir, Brooklyn. I had argued that very point when I finally threw out my prediction to folks coming back at me with 500 words posts telling me how bad ass Cal's chin is etc.. I said, well it's not like he's ever been UD'd either, catch my drift??:hey
