been... I dont mean to knock on his accomplishment but to be objective, he has many of you fooled..

He defended his middle crown against a army of B level/ pizza delivery boys until he caught a lucky break against a natural WW in Tito... Then he gets his first big money fight against a tiny Oscar .....

honestly, the only fight where i really give him props is against Tarver... That he deserves credit..

But after, he goes back to his old ways of picking on the smaller or limited fighters such as Pavlik and Pascal... And he fought Dawson only because he perceived Dawson as a mentally weak fighter... Even then he had to fake a shoulder injury to copout like a punk..

Hopkins is a great saleman, a great conman... He's not an ATG fighter like James Toney for instance..

Hopkins is a throwback fighter??? lol really???

And another thing.. He takes so much pride in taking down these younger fighters so why doesn't he ever call out ANdre Ward who's considered as the best around his weight class??????

And now, he's working towards a matchup against another one dimensional fighter in Tavoris Cloud... SMH

He's repeatedly said he's too close with Ward to want to fight him.

Oh, yeah Bernard is an extreme cherrypicker.

Tough and strong... those are the ones he like.
    (Trinidad, Pavlik etc...)

A bit of technical skill and speed and he fails... if he doesn't run first..
(Taylor and no.. he will never mention Ward)

"Andre Ward is the next thing for Bernard Hopkins. I’m going on record telling everyone that’s listening, and I have no promotional relationship with Andre Ward. They’re watching everybody else. They better watch him, period.”-Bernard Hopkins.

He sees him as a future successor, not an opponent.

I seem to recall Bernard once speaking those exact words to me.

What bull****. How dumb does Bernard think boxing fans are?

Successor? Frazier, Ali, Foreman.. successors? They still fight each other...

If people say "so what" to his successor story, then Bernard will marry someone is Ward's family and claim "I cannot fight family".

It all boils down to Bernard being **** scared of Ward.. and therefore he will say whatever to avoid having to fight him. If Ward was crude... Bernard would fight him in a heartbeat. Its that simple.

No. But I would not be surprised if he created this elaborate story that he sees Ward as someone who can carry the torch... someone the American people can rely on.. someone to continue the legacy... all with wet eyes...

Or whatever other story he can come up with to avoid Ward.

It doesn't really matter what story he invented.. the bottom line is that he will never fight Ward because he only goes for the "strong and crude" as a rule with very few exceptions. And Ward is far too good to be someone Hopkins would want to even consider.

Yeah, how many 48-year-olds do you see in the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB or MMA? Yet B-Hop (and Vitali for that matter) are supposed to grow some nuts and fight twenty something year olds in their prime :patsch

Honestly he has done his fair share of cherry picking and clever matchmaking. But what he's done at such an old age is commendable any way you cut it.

You know what, Benard Hopkins has paid his dues in this game and he probably should bow out gracefully but he keeps himself in excellent condition and I don't mind seeing him play the gatekeeper cause he still has the skills to weed out the bull****. Him fighting Ward is not a big issue cause they are going in different directions and Ward has established himself as a true champion. On the other hand, Cloud is a little shakey and I don't see nothing wrong with B Hop checking his credentials. Boxing is not one dimensional.:bbb

hopkins is nearly 50, campaigns at 175 and andre ward cannot make him any money. there's no reason why he should be mentioning ward, and stylistically it's one of the worst matchups to be made north of welterweight. he shouldnt be mentioning andre ward.
