I had Calzaghe winning by a couple of rounds, but I think in the end BH's age told. He ran out of puff in the later rounds and Calzaghe simply outworked him. Hopkins fought as well as he could otherwise. You can see that after that ridiculous low blow break that Hopkins milked out of the ref, for the first minute or so, he was getting the better of exchanges, until he tired again. This fight told me a lot about Calzaghe's quality in the overall scheme of things. very good fighter = yes, great fighter = probably not.
Bernard was in great shape. He has fought the way he did for many years now and if he would have put out more offense then he would have played into Calzaghe's hand. He was beat by the better guy. And yes Joe is great and deserves all the recognition he gets as one of if not the greatest SMW of all time.
Just about every fighter does against Joe, though. In the same way that I credit Bernard for making an ugly fight since that's the style he wants, Calzaghe deserves credit for setting a pace that Hopkins isn't comfortable with.
Calzaghe adapted well, but Hopkins only had to throw a few punches to match the output and get the points win.
