No it doesn't mean hes racist. what he said had racist implications if you want to be technical. It implies that being beaten by a white fighter would be humiliating, implying white people can't fight. But does that one statement make someone a racist? Especially if it was maybe sarcastic or just a promotional tactic? Yes maybe it would have been controversial if a white fighter said it about a black fighter. But Imo you have to really have hate in your heart for another ethnicity to be a racist. And to take offense to that as a white guy just means you're a really really small man with crippling insecurities, I mean chirst he's just trying to sell the fight. I'm not going to go too far into this because people get banned for discussing this kind of stuff but calling this bad joke racism is just making real, ugly racism(doesn't matter who it comes from and who it's directed towards) seem less significant than it is. And guess what.the fact that we're talking about this, means Bernard got exactly what he wanted. Controversy.
I think the word doesn't really hold up here. At least not the modern definition of it. A racist black man would not choose a white guy as his trainer. He would also not praise other white folk (Pavlik and Kovalev come to mind).
Eeeexactly. Racist=to really have hate in your heart for another ethnicity. That's not Hopkins Hopkins was just a con man and a hustler Who did anything, including jumping out of the ring, wearing gimp outfits, causing riots in Puerto Rico and making outrageous statements for a dollar.
Bad joke or not its racism, and would be viewed worse the other way round..You do know its regarded by most that Hopkins is a racist because of that statement??? I would've thought it would be weak to not acknowledge it for what it was and be a lil biatch and put it down to promotion or whatever reason...Really really small man with crippling insecurities
We're changing this topic for sure! But that is the key (modern definition) as one, once labeled as a black nationalist I can say from experience and admission without being called a white Conservative....Civil Rights old dogs and liberals made words inclusive, when once upon a time it was about actions and treatment that defined racism. In that sense it isn't just coming back to haunt Hop, but the whole Al Sharpton circa , they took it too far giving birth to the PC movement...downhill from there....now back to boxing....
He has a great chin but the back of his noggin>>>his chin. And it takes a lot of guts to even attempt to perform the Kermit Cintron upside down, let alone actually do it in your 50s. This content is protected
It was frightening to see that. He was in his 50s took a beating, got knocked loopy and then fell 6 feet headfirst onto the floor. I have no idea how he got up at all. By the count of 8 he was already negotiating with the referee hahahah
Perfect example of a fighter that not only was too hard-headed to know when to quit, he also has a hard head, literally!
lol Yeah. I actually noticed that right hand bomb land that did all the damage and I remember thinking to myself at the time that it was a finisher. However, it still came as a surprise to see him fly out of the ring headfirst lol. Maybe that guy whose lap he partially landed on helped break his fall a little because if his head hit the ground with full impact he could've suffered a very serious injury. But either way, he must have a very hard head for it not to have knocked him out.
I hadn't thought of it, but you are right. Take away all the hugging, racist/stupid things he said, etc. and he fought some legit power punchers in or near their primes and stayed upright.
