http://www.historiadelboxeo.com/articulos/Bernard52.jpg Well it must be nice being the bully and tossing around a small man. Very classy Bernard to pawn off a rail thin Welterweight as a great victory. And then having the audacity to use that victory as justification of your all time great status p4p. Then miraculously he does it all over again with DLH.
Retrospection? Tito was a favourite, had just destroyed Joppy and was a p4p superstar. Any MW fighters today would certainly laud him as their best victory were they to prevail.
Ok, but in retrospect what did Tito go on to accomplish later at 160 pounds? That's how we evaluate wins.
I don't think Tito was Hopkins best win, it was his best win at middleweight and his break out win that made him elite but Tarver was a better win for Hopkins. Those butthurt by Hopkins beating their fighter love to throw around the claim he made a career beating smaller men totally ignoring the fact he jumped up 2 divisions and beat bigger men at light heavy. Also what was Hagler's best win, Hearns, Duran? Both men coming up in weight. How about Monzon? Griffith, Napoles, Briscoe and Valdez all fought at lower weights. And didn't Tito out weight Hopkins that night? When you have to resort to ignoring facts and using double standards to demean a fighter, you've already lost the argument.
Hearns is a natural Light Middle, Middle. Also, I could outweight Wilder if I wanted to and I'm only 5'10". All I would have to do is eat a whole lot of food.
Also, after the Hagler loss, Thomas Hearns went up to 175 pounds and defeated Virgil Hill in a masterpiece. Monzon broke benvenuti. He reigned while there was only 1 title as well. I fail to see how Hopkins jumping to 175 is relevant as it pertains to him knocking out two Welterweights. And by the way he was easily clowned by the two best fighters he ever fought.
Excellent post sir, everything is relative and if this thread was created as some sort of support system for Brook/GGG its a complete fail. Bernard is proven in every weight class he's visited and Tarver is certainly above the Tito/DLH wins even if you fashioned a comparison of careers Brook has only a small portion of Tito and DLH accolades at similar points in their careers. Still I'm not completely unexcited about the Brook/GGG fight.
Bernard fought the best his era had to offer at 168 and 175 that coward mw champ wont even go near 168...he wont even fight james degale at 168
