There is an article in the Journal de Montreal today that basicaly says that Berrio is playing games.

Interbox says they had agreement with Berrio's promoter, Berrio's manager and Berrio himself for a fight on september 29th in Montreal. Berrio agreed to everything. The money, the date, the venue, the gloves, the size of the ring... everything. And now Berrio says somebody else offered him twice as much for a fight.

The IBF decided there would be a purse bid on august 16 if the can't agree until then.

I'd like to know who that someone else is. Bute-Berrio is a fight that needs to happen.

Some people think it might be Interbox's competitor. Group Yvon Michel (Promoter of Alcine, Ngoudjo, Pascal).

But I don't think its GYM. It would be a business suicide. The boxing fans in Montreal would not like this at all.

It could be Universum or Henessey. Who knows. If it's Hennesey then it's just as bad since they work with GYM. lol

Hopefully it's just Berrio playing games!

As much as I hate not saying "screw Berrio", he is entitled to get himself the best deal, because after this fight, he won't even be mentioned anymore.

Not necessarily. He's an exciting fighter who has more skill than people give him credit for. If he can get himself enough exposure, I could easily see him developing a following much like some other less talented fighters who are a lot of fun to watch.

But yeah, he should get the best deal he can. Still, if he wanted to fight a big money fight, he shouldn't have waited until the end of his mandatory period. Bad management.

That might be a step too far since the division will probably open right back up once the Calzaghe-Kessler winner inevitably gets stripped of a belt or two after unification, but I do see your point. Bute's on a fast track to the title, and Berrio needs to capitalize on that belt while he can.
