pops up from time to time and always makes me smile. Savage was due to compete in the St Louis Bay tournament that Tubbs won.
This one makes me smile as well. An oldie but a goodie. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfD7agP1yxw[/ame]
Savage was also meant to fight in the People's Choice Million Dollar, one night Tournament (an example to anyone under 25ish, that Prizefighter is anything but original), but got cold feet... If I remember correctly, Savage claimed a 37-0 London Prizefighter rules record going into the Cooper fight.
On that occassion, apparently he walked in on Tubbs and Bonecrusher Smith practicing with a few rounds of sparring. Joe Savage looked a bit ill, Smith had a quiet word with him, "This is what we do for a living, Joe. It's none of that street crap." The next day Savage had officially pulled out 'with an injury'. Of course, he'd boasted a 90-0 bareknuckle record prior to that.
