Bert Cooper vs Bruce Seldon

Good fight, yes. Cooper was very dangerous but unreliable. Lots of people will pick Bert, but I think Seldon outboxes him.

Cooper was much better than this TOMATO CAN .cooper by ko.he was capable to hurt iron chins like evander or mercer .he would destroy this bum

 

I agree that it could be a very good fight. I'm actually leaning towards Bert Cooper to win it though. Reason being is because when I look back at the absolute war that he had with Ray Mercer in the summer of 1990, I can't envision Seldon enduring what either of those guys went through, as he did tend to have some stamina and durability issues. And while Bruce was a decent fighter, his skills weren't superb enough to merely outbox Cooper from a safe distance. I see this as being an entertaining slug fest for about five to seven rounds with Bert somehow getting the stoppage win.

 

The Cooper that faced Mercer, Tillman, Moorer, Holyfield, or even Joe Hipp would stop the chinny Seldon. If Bert's drug problems lead him come into the ring totally unprepared, he could conceivably be outboxed. But, I think Bert would know that Seldon had an unreliable chin, and would come out blazing with both hands. Although Seldon was a very good boxer (and was built like a brick ****house) he never once won a firefight against a big puncher. And, despite his shortcomings, Smokin Bert could certainly crack.

I agree with this and picked Cooper for some of the very same reasons. Good fight though.

 

The issue I have is that I don't think Cooper ever beat a full sized heavyweight who was any good. The closest he got was Tillman unless I'm forgetting someone, and Tillman was forgettable as a pro.

Yes, but Marciano never proved that he'd fail against bigger men, whereas Cooper's career is based on failures against bigger men.

Marciano never did beat big good hws. Just small guys,big BUMS and old men. Marciano would have tons of defeats in the era of cooper and probably if cooper landed clean he would hurt rocky bably

 

Both Tillman and Cooper were cruisers when they fought each other. Bert managed to convincingly beat a decent fringe heavyweight in Joe Hipp who incidentally is probably also the best heavyweight Seldon ever beat. only difference is, Hipp was prime when Cooper beat him

 

Good point, Tillman wasn't a big guy. Regarding Hipp, he was going through the best part of his career when Seldon beat him, so he was prime. I think Tucker was better though, even when old.

At their best, I take Cooper.

I think that if he'd been more consistent he'd have been a real dangerous guy. But he managed to put in quite a few flop performances hurting his stock.
