Both at there best, if it’s your preference you can use the CW Bert Cooper who you could argue is superior then his HW version. Eh Honestly, this is winnable for Smokin Bert.
Smokin Bert Cooper would stop him late or desicioned him but... If Floyd fight like he did against Bonavena he could easy decision him. It is 50/50.
Yes, the older Floyd seemed to gain in confidence imo. He'd seemed to toughen up and did well against the up and coming generation. The younger Floyd in this match, pre liston, out works Cooper with the faster hands.. But I won't bet on a Ingo type ko from Bert with Floyd getting knocked down several times. The older version grits his teeth and stops Bert in around 11. Thing is with a guy like smokin Bert Cooper, can never tell what he's bringing to the table.
Floyd would hand some potent bombs that his man wouldn't even be able to see and the ref would count to 10 over Smokin Bert
What an insult to Floyd. Cooper was rightfully a cruiserweight, and would have no size advantage. Floyd is by far the greater fighter and would find a way to win.
You're not helping your point. If you look at the fights these two had, Floyd at his peak was in the 190s, and Bert in his peak was in the 210s and 220s, so it was Floyd who was the cruiserweight. Do your research man.
Patterson by easy stoppage. Ingo cops some criticism but he was a full level above Cooper and Floyd was two of three against him with a couple of devastating KO’s. I love Cooper and he could cause a scary moment or two against a careless good fighter but he could also be reliably relied upon to lose when he should. He’d lose this big as Patterson was simply a much better fighter. Faster, more talented, better athletic just better. Floyd was KO’d by two of the more thunderous punchers of his era (avenging one of these losses) but otherwise was pretty sturdy, knockdowns notwithstanding. He’s been sold pretty short against far lesser fighters ever since much like Kenny Norton.
FFS, Patterson would flatten him. The difference is class is immense. And Cooper doesn't even have a size advantage, he was a fattened up cruiserweight at best.
There's no way Cooper was ever "peak" in the 220s. Peak Cooper was a cruiserweight who fought in heavyweight division too.
Cooper's best performances at heavyweight were in the 215-224 pound range. There, he was thick, solid and not carrying excess fat. When he was hitting the high 230's/low 240's he was obviously out of condition, but he carried 215-220 well. He was no longer a cruiserweight then.
Cooper is best known for his three fights with Holyfield, Moorer, and Mercer, which are probably his three best performances as well. He weighed 215 to 224 for the bouts. Calling Cooper a cruiserweight and not Floyd is preposterous, since Floyd (I think) never weighed more than 201.
