Just watched it. Weaver was in shape as always and boxed pretty good despite his age and number of hard fights. Cooper seemed unprepared and gassed in middle rounds. Weaver outboxed him for most of rounds, except rounds 4, 5 and 6. In these rounds Cooper hurt Mike but couldn't follow up. Cooper missed a lot and looked tired in the late rounds. I scored this fight 7-3 for Weaver. It wasn't a great fight, but very decent and worth watching, especially if you're fan or either: This content is protected
So glad you covered this. One of those fights where it's like people nearly have an unwritten rule this is just not a fight you discuss.
Tbh Tbh, I never liked watching any of my favourite fighters not at their best. Regardless how big I love them.. their not the same. This Cooper is different than the Cooper from DeWitt. Anyways nice breakdown of the fight.
True. Cooper wasn't in this fight nearly as good as against DeWitt, Mercer or Holyfield. Seemed like he took the fight way too lightly
I have this fight. I remember this being kind of a big deal in the boxing mags because it took place in China. And they didn't have professional boxing. It was also seen as a vehicle for Bert Cooper to win a "title." He'd floored Holyfield and Moorer in title fights. Came close to winning a belt. So they offered up some kind of title - the NBA belt I think or something like that - and a fight with the really old Mike Weaver. They figured the Chinese wouldn't know the difference, since they didn't have pro boxing, and the internet wasn't really around then. Just call it a heavyweight title fight. And Weaver beat him, too.
