Gave moorer and evander all they could handle, beat former world champion orlin norris, and never avoided no one. What are your thoughts on bert? any intresting stories about him?
I don't know any interesting stories about Bert but your right i was watching the Holyfeild fight again the other day and what a game ******* he was . :deal
Last year Bert and my Brother in Law stayed at the same Drug rehab house. My B.I.L said he was a nice guy but when he needed cash to support his habbit he would go up to the dealers in the neightborhood and ask them for cash.If they refused He Knocked them out where they stood. This was prior to the stay at the rehab house. He got him to sign a nice card for me.
Well my B.I.L. is doing a little time. I dont know what happened to Bert though. He just stressed what a cool guy Bert was.
Man its gutting how some lose their way , hope your B I L will stay focused mate when he is out , as for Bert well thanks for the fights and i wish him well also ...:good
Bert was as tough as you could get att both cruiserweight and heavyweight.. he had to go to cruiserweight because heavys were avoiding him.... his fights with Mo , Carl the truth and Mercer were awsome and that titanic struggle with Evander was a shocker at the time, and on 2 days notice............. I met Bert a few times and he was so polite, but always admitted he was horribly dependant on drugs.. Bert once told me that the hardest man to hit him was Riddick Bowe.. he said Bowe had such heavy hands and was extremely sneaky and fast with it..........
Drugs ? Ive just read an article on Rocky Lockridge , living on the street etc dependent on Drugs and Booze WTF ? curse of the sport and life in general .:-(
The Carl William's fight was a one sided drubbing. I believe Cooper on Bowe. Bowe took Evander out near Evander's prime. Pretty incredible.
For all truly Concerned about Bert: I spent the day yesterday with Bert at arecovery team softball game and barbacue with Bert and another mutual friend. Bert has been clean and sober for some time now. He has been actively training and is in the best shape physically, mentally and spiritually then at any time in his life. He looks as if he can go 12 rounds today. He hopes to go to Russia soon to fight. Many other boxers older then Bert still remain a formible draw and I believe Bert remains a good one
Glad to hear he's doing well, though I might have concerns about him fighting again. He ain't young. However, it seems he has put his demons at bay. Best of luck to him.
Smoking' Bert was an aptly named moniker in and out of the ring. Cooper really had good ability. If he was nurtured and managed a bit differently he could have been a mainstream famous boxer. Cooper might have been shafted by some home cookin' when he floored Holyfield in his title fight. One thing I've always found interesting is Oliver McCall said Bert Cooper hit him the hardest.
