Cooper was thought of as a mini Tyson early in his career, had a lot of hype surrounding him. Got to remember he was a unbelievably hard hitter naturally, built like a ****ing truck... AND he learned how to throw those hooks from Frazier. Hell of a combination.
From memory, I think some people thought that he would be a potential successor in the cruiserweight division upon Holyfield's exit. As it stands, he spent the bulk of his career at heavyweight with mixed results against world class opponents. He easily demolished the undefeated olympian Willie Dewitt, defeated various men who weren't that bad such as Orlin Norris, Tony Willis, and Joe Hipp. He also was involved in at least three of the best slugfests that i've ever seen against Ray Mercer, Michael Moorer and Evander Holyfield. Sadly, he is probably best remembered for his gallant losing efforts, rather than any wins of real note. Nevertheless, he played his part in keeping the fans entertained, which is what boxers are supposed to do. Cooper did this and then some.
I wouldn't doubt he said that, but in the interview of Oliver that I conducted, he told me it was Douglas.
