That sucks. RIP Bert. It might not be the time, place, or manner to do so, but I've got to say that I think his opinion is of little relevance. No more than mine or any other non-troll poster on this site. Sugar never fought. Was no trainer or manager. His experience in the fight game is being a fan and journalist. Big deal. He is Mr. Opinion, and close to half the time, that opinion is laughable (i.e. "Primo Carnera would kill the Klitschkos!").
He was a great interview and loved the game. Always added a little colour to the proceedings. Great guy. He will be missed..
R.I.P. Saw him at the Juanma-Marquez fight that I was covering and he got a standing ovation from press row. I enjoyed his stories. I also thought he was older than 74.
I really don't want to start an argument but he was also the only guy that favored Pac over Oscar and one of the few that favored Margo over Cotto (and explained very well why)
Always added a little colour to the proceedings and an all round good bloke. He will be missed...:----------(
I was only watching him on a Tyson documentary yesterday. Guess he'll never get that ****ing cigar lit now.
No doubt he knew a **** load. A shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit load. Neither of those are that impressive though, let's be honest (Pac over Oscar is impressive, but nowhere near the "EVERYONE ON EARTH PICKED OSCAR!" that people will have you believe). I picked Bryant Jennings to beat Liakhovich and correctly predicted the round Broner would KO Eloy Perez, with precise breakdowns of how the fights would go. That's just in the past month. With fighters and styles much less documented and opined than those of the super mainstream fights you cite as an example of Sugar's insight. It's not as though no one gave Margarito a chance, and it's also not as though that fight is the greatest example to choose due to its vastly suspected controversy.
This was one dude who was nothing but full of himself. He was a master at turning facts into his own revisionist history. I'm sorry for the loss his family has to incur but he's no loss for the sport. Actually we are better off without his biased opinions!
Christ, and you wonder why Klitschko fans get such a bad rep. You really are a vile, classless ****. Hopefully karma will come swiftly to your doorstep.
I had a feeling this was coming after seeing him on TV recently, Bert looked quite gaunt to say the least. His boxing knowledge was encyclopedic and he was a character. He will be sorely missed. By the way, his named is spelled Sugar not Suger. R.I.P.
No one's "better off", what the hell are you talking about?? They're just his opinions (not to mention he got to see the old-timers fight live). He can say what he wants. You don't have to listen to him. And besides, Bert is a much better person, than the majority of sleazebags who run boxing today.
