:goodVery well said and Sugar's right that Sultan-Klits fight was garbage, Klits looked like he had a fly swatter in his left hand the way he was slapping in the first 3 rounds, couldn't throw a right hand to save his life and let's face it Klits was afraid to get hit, by a guy who is only 6 foot 213 pounds and looks like a plumber:-( I can't wait until someone with some real power lays Klits out, and this is guy most people say is the best heavy in the World:verysad:-( What a shame
As I said to Kobe is God before in another thread, they need to match up Wlad with guys that are light punching and more slick in there fighting style, guys like Peter, Virchis, and a few others are too much of a danger for Wlad at this point, I'm not saying either one of them would definitely beat Wlad, but they are a serious risk to Wlad's weak chin/psyche, they need to have him stick to oppenents like Chagaev, Thompson, and Gomez, and maybe Povetkin. My perdiction of Wlads chin being exposed in the next 2 years, will happen again, it's only a matter of time.:yep
Exactly, Wlad for being such a big strong guy, has a horrible, chin, psyche, man im dying for another Peter fight, Sam lays his ass out next time.. :yep
Don't forget that Bert Sugar wasn't watching the big fights on black and white T.V. - he was actually sitting there in the audience watching them in full color..
I would myself would love to see a Peter/Wlad 2 fight, but first things first, Peter has to not only beat Maskaev on March 8, but he needs to destroy him. I have a strong feeling Peter is coming out guns blazing, he knows he needs to make up for his last fight against Mccline. This fight will be Peters defining fight, lucky for Peter, Maskaev has a hard time blocking the overhand right, Peters signature punch. I see Peter getting the win by a brutal 3rd round, one punch knockout.:yep
I don't know about that. In order to remain a respected voice in the game you have to keep current on what's going on. Remember that experts like Sugar have resources that we don't have like the ability to converse with other experts and even the stars themselves. I'm also pretty sure that he watches more of the current fights of both pros and amateurs more than most of us do, and likely reads all the latest literature. I'm sure he could name prospects and hopefuls that you and I haven't even heard of.
Bert definately sounded a bit tipsy in that intereview. It totally looked and sounded like he knocked back a few before it.
When your around the sport that long, your intitled to a drink or several, after fights like that one, Merchant would drink Sugar under the table.:yep
In all the years I've been watching boxing I never paricularly paid attention to the gossip concerning commenators and analysts outside of the ring. Is Merchant known as a guy who likes to tip the bottle?
Yes, there has been several occasions where it looked like he was out of it on HBO telecasts, his long rants that made no sense to anyone other than him, gave way to the rumors, many believe thats part of the reason he was getting booted by HBO and replaced with Kellerman.
And half of those were boring fights. The only one with any sort of entertainment to it was Calvin Brock...Ray Austin getting bomed out was great as well. Wlad did what he had to do...but that doesn't mean the fight wasn't a severe clunker.
I don't particularly like Bert Sugar but what do the WALD fans expect him to say, that the fight was like Manila all over again? It was a ****, boring fight and he told the truth, what's wrong with that?
I don't blame him for expressing his disappointment in the fight, but he went way beyond that. He said Wlad was terrible, and I don't think he was just referring to that performance. At one point, he jokingly said that he felt Primo Carnera could have beaten him, although I think he may have been serious. He continued by ranting about how terrible the heavyweight division was. I agree that this is not exactly the golden age of heavyweights, but it probably isn't the worst either. Sugar is overly opinionated when he's had a few coctails.
