The thing is, Sugar proably saw Carnera fight, and he's seen WALD fight too so he's entitled to express that opinion more than the average boxrec warrior that you get on here. He might be right, he might be wrong, who knows?

He never said the heavies at the moment were the worst ever but he did say the division stinks. He's right on that one, you almost agreed with it yourself in your post if you re-read it.

OK the guy is opinionated and as I previously said I don't like him myself as I've read a few stories that show him up to be a particularly unpleasant human being....I don't defend him often but in this case he is actually speaking the truth, for the most part.

Sugar is not to be taken seriously. He's trying too hard to be controversial.

He makes it sound as if Wlad is on par with Josh Cobb, when truth be told, the guy has devastated all of his recent opponents, and won a UD in this recent fight.

Yeah, he SUCKS for that. Gotcha, Bert!

It was a lousy performance no doubt about it. But for whatever its worth ( perhaps not much ), he did beat that guy with little or no effort and won every round in my opinion against an undefeated titlist. Albeit a boring fight. I don't agree with him that Wlad is terrible, though he's not an all time great in my book either.

Agreed, I can name a whole list of world title fights at heavyweight and otherwise that were snooze fests. Holmes, Ali, Lewis and many others had fights that were boring. Go on Youtube and watch Holmes fight Tex Cobb and tell me that wasn't a joke. Marlon Starling vs Michael Nunn back in 90' was so horrible that I almost couldn't even sit through it. Ali vs Wepner and Ali vs Young were aweful. I'm not berating these other champions, my only point is that everyone has flat performances, in which we don't always get to see them pound someone's face in.

    .....**** happens.....

I'll go along with that, yes he did what he had to do but Ibragimov although undefeated is an awful heavyweight on several levels. I remember the criticism Lewis got for fighting cautious against both Holyfield and Tua (some of the criticism was justified, by the way) and then I watch WALD against an opponent that isn't anywhere near as dangerous as those 2 individuals and he coasts to a crappy win without landing a meaningful shot. Lewis at least unloaded on Tua and Holyfield occasionally to make it slightly interesting, WALD just flicked and pawed against a guy that looked terrified. Sorry but that isn't going to attract people to the sport, he looked like ****.

Good points. He did look like ****. But in one of the rare instances that he threw his right hand, he nearly sent Ibragimov through the ropes. Also, part of the reason why it was such a dull match has to do with Ibragimov's efforts as well. He basically crouched, hid, clinched and ran all night long. It takes two men to make a good fight, and perhaps if Sultan had engaged Wlad like a true contender with heart, we might have seen a real contest that would have been short but at least sweet.

It's really simple. Burt Sugar predicted Micheal Spinks would defeat
Mike Tyson in their epic fight all those years ago despite Spink's "rinky
dinky knees." Spinks had knee problems back then if you want to
source that reference. Anyway he is an old AMERICAN blowhard who
wouldn't give a European fighter especially an eastern Euro any credit
for any victory because like most yanks and yankee writers he is a
jingoistic slimeball with no redeeming features. Wlad displayed a
phenomenol defensive skillset last Saturday shutting down an Olympic
star completely. An unprecedented achievement especially at heavyweight
and the morons in the boxing mainstream media denounce it. What next?
Attack the magnificent defensive masterpieces of Pernell Whittaker and
the immortal Willie Pep. Disgusting, disgraceful doublestandards.
