Agree 100% but you must think how would Carnera do with modern day techniques not viveversa.

    Exactly.

I respect Bert based on his long time in the game, but he exaggerates like no one else.

Like him or not, Wladimir Klitschko is an A-level fighter. He may not be a top ten ATG at heavyweight like others, but he is NOT Primo Carnera (who wasn't terrible himself). Wlad has beaten almost everyone who was anyone over the last decade at HW.

Bert Sugar was crocked that night, as well as disappointed in the performance of the two fighters. His comment about Carnera " who had been dead for 40 years ", was more out of spitefulness than anything else.

Thunder you're out of your mind if you think Primo Carnera would beat Klitschko any version of him...come on all this hero worship of old fighters has gone too far...

Next I'm going to hear that Rocky Marciano would have beaten both klitschko bros and LL in the same night because he ran 10 miles a day...

I'm not saying he would necessarily beat him but it's not like it's not a possibility.Wlad has a history of getting starched and he fights very safely lately.

 He is the most biased boxing commentator I have seen. Im not surprised at all he said that a fighter from an older era is better than one of todays fighters. Thats all he ever says. He would probably say Carnera would beat Lewis as well if you pressed him on it.

There is a video of a show with Muhamed Ali and Bert Sugar where they are arguing about Joe Louis. Bert Sugar of course saying Louis would wipe the floor with Ali and Ali talking all kinds of **** "old slow shufflin' Louis would never beat me" It was pretty funny, Sugar was getting aggitated with Ali:lol:

He also was notoriously lax about his training and didn't take the sport as seriously as he could. Plus both Klitschkos have higher KO percentages.

If Baer would have taken the sport seriously he would have been an ATG

Bert is, and always has been, full of ****.

Many of his stories are false, tall tales. Over the years I had the chance to ask 2 hall of fame fighters about something I heard Bert Sugar say and both of them said it never happened.

Operative word being if. I agree, if he had taken it seriously he would have been, but he didn't.

Just like Wlad wouldn't have gotten KO'd by Purritty if hisstamina would have helped him...but it didn't

I would say Wlad has actually fought stronger opposition than Vitali. Carnera was TKOd twice later in his career by Leroy Haines, most of the good names he fought and beat he outweighed by 60lbs or more and he essentially lost to the majority of the good fighters he fought who were also at significant height and weight disadvantage. Sharkey to me was not a great champion anyhow and won the title on a controversial decision. Carnera is certainly not as bad as many people make out, but I would not rate him above the Klitschko's. I mean if it were not for the splintering of belts either Klitschko could reign undisputed for sometime.
