Yeah, I admit these things just aren't important to me.

 

Same here, but I think these types of lists can reveal a lot about their authors.

 

Not many might be familiar with this dude on the list but he could definitely box!

 

Top Ten Lightweight!

 

Sugar probably had never seen a lot of the people on his list fight in person or on film. Of the ones he had watched in person or on film, it's doubtful that he knew enough about boxing mechanics to understand what he was watching. Never could understand why the networks and writers would ask his opinion about anything.

 

The top 10 is good. Ketchell should be higher though. Number 1 and 2 are correct for certain.

 

Anyone who goes on and on how Johnson and Dempsey were lacking just to make their hero Jeffries look better is a fan boy. When I was young and inexperienced I was a fan boy too. I grew out of that stage and hopefully with enough time you will too. I don't look at color, race, or time period. I look at ability. Praising Jeffries and at the same time knocking the two ATG that came after is a character flaw. To progress with your knowledge of the sport you need to progress with eliminating your fan boy thought process.

Another issue you have is jumping the gun to proclaim greatness way too early. Boxing greatness is earned in the ring. No fighter is an ATG unless they prove themselves to be. Remember how you proclaimed Kovalev a completely untested fighter would ko Marciano and Louis?Thats inexperienced fan boy talk. You need to be more steadfast in your reasoning and analytical in your approach. One day if you keep at it you will get there.

 

Cedan and Ray leonard are far too high.

 

I would like to see a list made on great fighters fought and beaten and titles.

 

That depends. Dempsey might make a top twenty if you ranked on impact on the sport, iconic status, developing the sport financially etc. and combined that with in-the-ring exploits.

But if you're ranking him purely as a fighter, his achievements in the ring, then he doesn't get anywhere near the top end, for me.

 

Dempsey should be #1

Apart from that, it's okay.

 

You could make it into a good list by removing a handful of names.

Take the top eight for example.

 

Dempsey, Greb, Walker,Langford, and quite a few others from his list all are "hearsay" fighters, Someone said they were great, but did he actually see them fight?
