Bert Sugar's top 10 heavyweights

Sugar was a skilled PR man, designed to be consumed by more casual fans who engaged in just the big fights and names. Hey, he was generally quite likeable and his eccentricity probably encouraged a lot of people to start getting in to the history of the sport a little more, so fair play to him. But I think his carefully-constructed image and wise old sage persona gave him an air of authority which was never really matched by his knowledge or logic, which often seemed superficial on anything that wasn't Ali, Robinson or Marciano related. A great raconteur, but I reckon there are dozens of guys who post on here who would have put Sugar to shame with their knowledge of great past fighters outside of the obvious, huge names.

 

I have the same DVD...I enjoyed the DVD but I have always felt Bert Sugar was a damned fool..

He's also very agenda driven, always trying to push some agenda depending upon what fighter he's talking about
