WBC executive secretary Mauricio Sulaiman sent a letter to the parties of WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (25-0,19 KOs) and former WBA welterweight champion Luis Collazo (30-4,15 KOs) to begin free negotiations of a rematch on their January 17th bout of earlier this year. This ruling had been decided at the last WBC Convention that was held in Chengdu, China. If no agreement is reached then the WBC will conduct a purse bid offer on July 17th at the WBC offices in Mexico City. Berto narrowly defeated Collazo by decision in their bout. Each fighter has had one fight since then. Berto easily decisioned Juan Urango last month, while Collazo to keep busy stopped journeyman David Gogichaishvili this past weekend.

This will be a good fight again, but I think Collazo fought as good as his potential will take him and Berto will do better this time around. I think Berto will train harder and will have a better game plan. I think Collazo overexerted himself in the first fight, which caused him to tire out later on and cost him the fight, lets see if he learned from the first fight and makes the adjustment.

Great news. Thats actually 2 things the wbc did something right, one was get rid of Maskaev as mandatory and 2 to have Berto fight Collazo in the rematch.

Collazo is no Mikki Rodriguez and Berto was also in peril of getting KO'ed in that fight at least KD.

Berto is terrible. So long as the referee takes points (and continues to do so) when Berto does his excessive holding then Collazo will dominate him on the cards.

Expect Collazo to SCHOOL Berto on the inside ALL NIGHT as in the first fight.
