I know this may be crazy. But did you guys over hear Kellerman (i think) say that Berto may be very similar to Meldrick Taylor. I wont lie. I'm too young to really have seen a lot of Taylor outside of his highlights. right now i'm watching the taylor vs chavez story, and I must say that based on what I've seen Berto and Taylors styles are very similar in my opinion.

they are both super fast, throw extremely good combos, and even more importantly, they are both excellent boxers but both have the tendency to want to slug instead of use their ability to easily outbox their opponents.

What do you guys think. I'm particularly talking to the other fans who have actually seen a lot of taylor and berto.

I'd actually say Mosley was a lot like Taylor.

Berto is like Taylor? Kellerman must have been sniffing Bob Papa's seat cushion. Taylor was poetry in motion. Taylor had lightning hand speed and his combinations were amazing.

I heard him say "like Meldrick" but he was just critiquing Berto in the nicest way that he could think of and out of fear of being back handed by Berto's big carribean brother Lenox

Berto is physically stronger and carries more power, but Taylor had the better chin and much faster hands. His ability to compete and win a majority of rounds against Chavez before losing and TKOing Buddy McGirt are evidence that he was a top notch fighter. Berto will never beat the true elites like Cotto and Mayweather.

I can see some similarities...hopefully Berto doesn't fall in love with slugfests as much and doesn't take the unnecessary amount of punishment Taylor took over his career. I still think a puncher would do big damage to him if he plans on trading.

Berto is ok. He's still green but working his way up. IMO he's a C+ fighter with a lot of power and good speed. He should fight a volume puncher with a great chin and heart but lacks power, next.

I just thought from the few highlights of Taylor that I've seen, that Berto's offensive skill set is similar. He can potentially become really good. Unfortunately for Berto though, he may have to wait for FLoyd and Cotto to leave the welterweight division before he can truly shine.
