He would never make 140 looks to me like he struggles at 147 i see him moving up to middleweight at some point
Try taking a shot behind the ear and see how it feels. Nevertheless, for those who know Berto's style, it is clear to see that Shane Mosley was a very bad matchup for him at this stage in his career. I knew that was a bad idea from the beginning.
Berto actually made me dislike him last night by doing all of that unwarranted appealing to the ref regarding alleged "rabbit punches" which were for the most part non-existent. Hell, I keep a ****in' punchstat on rabbit punches (according to my records Sam Peter is still in the career lead, btw) and Berto was NOT gettin' molested about the back of the head. He looked like a crybaby ***** in there a la Cintron . . . and I don't like Cintron. Poor job by the ref in there on numerous occasions. On an other note: R.I.P. Arthur Mercante Sr.
^^^ I don't think Berto had his balance after that shot behind the ear, which is why he kept complaining. It didn't look like Quintana hit him behind the head that many times at all.
Berto just strikes me as a guys whose body dosent match his style, for example - Tyson and Ali had perfect bodies for their respective styles- switch them up and they wouldnt be successful as they had been. Berto is a short, short armed welter who dosent have banging power or a bruising disposition or chin for that matter- to fight the way his body favors. Boxers like this, wil always run into trouble everntually.
So you think he would Fight the same against Mosley? No way. He would give Mosley a really tough fight and he would fight like he did against urango. He was going for the K.O in the last nights fight , he would no do that against Mosley. He would Try and Steal the rounds with Movement and Speed.
I think Berto fights with a lot of youth and aggression, and thats carrying him through these fights, but I dont see a very skilled fighter in there. If Quintana wasnt such a ***** he could have probably done more damage to Berto. He needed to put something on Berto to get him to back off, yet he kept holding and spinning. He had the power to do it, dont know why he let Berto out muscle him like that. I think Berto is going to have problems with the better welterweights that can punch inside his open shots. As soon as Berto starts punching both his hands go to his waist. He also poses with a very wide stance which leaves him wide open for a straight punch. Quintana had success with it one time, but never went back to it.
IMO you people are being harsh on Berto.Acting like the guys a bum or something. Yes he may lose to a Mosley or a Maywether and Pacquiao, but it has not come to that yet. Berto stopped a tough man in Quintana in 8,and he deserves some credit for it. The facts are that Berto is beating the fighters in front of him now. When it comes to Berto fighting the three guys i mentioned and he gets tested like he has never been tested before, then we can judge the man skills. Then we will know what Andre Berto is all about.
Berto gets undersold on this forum. He has his flaws, but it's not like he's an easy guy to beat. The guy has fought 3 straight lefties and Forbes. Those are all tricky fights where it's difficult to look good. It's like when Taylor had that string where he fought Hopkins twice, Wright, Ouma, and Spinks. 3 lefties and an a crafty veteran. Unless you're an exceptional fighter, you're not going to look good against those guys. Berto is fast, athletic, and powerful. He will be a problem for most guys at 147. He probably wouldn't beat Pacquiao, Mosley, or Mayweather but most guys can't. If Berto were a 140 lb. fighter, I have little doubt that he could beat all of those guys. It's almost like he's being punished for sharing a division with special fighters.
The welterweight division is a long and legendary division with a rich history. It is a division where men like Ray Robinson, Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Tommy Hearns, Oscar De Lahoya, Shane Mosely, Floyd Mayweather, and others are the true measure of greatness. And yet, Andre Berto is the WBC "world champion," but Carlos Quintana is probably the best true welterweight Berto has ever faced. The kid simply does not measure up to the position that boxing politics and manipulation put him in. It reminds me of something out of a pro-wreslting play book.
