He looked off in the ring, mostly was probably from Ortiz but he looked unfresh, almost like if he didn't train properly, which is his fault 100%

But still it's ****ing crazy if Berto lands that one big right in the 12th where he landed two big shots just prior, Ortiz is going to go down and as long as Berto doesn't god down afterward. He gets a draw on the cards.

You guys ever think that a guy doesn't perform well in the ring because ya know? They're weary of the opposite fighter's punching power? Ya know, he just might hit hard enough to make you think twice about throwing. Just maybe though.

No, absolutely. Ortiz deserves credit for pounding Berto into submission.

    -BUT-

Many of us have been calling the exposure of Berto for quite some time now. His speed & power were only ever going to carry him so far...

His speed and power almost got him a stoppage before he was put down.

He needs to get another conditioner. Too much weight in his torso and has small legs. Also crappy stamina

definitely agree that he needs to work out his corner situation and make sure his brother isn't in the equation... he was shouting bull**** all night. his trainer was giving a couple decent pieces of instruction... work off the jab and quit trying to load up on every shot. thing is, throughout berto's career, when has he really used the jab as anything more than a range finder; versus a tool to gain respect and command distance. he needed to touch him up and with berto's physique, you would think he would be a better body puncher, but he always just loads up and head hunts. he has always fought at one pace and one body rhythm. it's like a pitcher in the major leagues with a 100 mph fast ball but no ability to change speeds. he really has always been more of a great athlete who boxes versus a good boxer.

also, i think mentally he wasn't prepared to see ortiz come out with that sort of resolve and determination. you could see it in his eyes from the first round that he realized he was in for a long night. you can't question his heart, but i think he underestimated ortiz. he never was able to get his legs right after that initial flurry in the first round.

the other huge tactical flaw that i saw consistently from berto was in initiating the clinch. he would try to tie up from too far out. ortiz was able to start capitalizing with the uppercut. if victor could have been a little more methodical and took a half step to his right he could have walked berto into his left uppercut all night and i think he might have got him out there.

overall, was a very enjoyable night. berto is what i thought. great athlete who is too dependent on his physical attributes and ortiz is physically what i thought. quick, strong, solid technique. admittedly, i was surprised by ortiz's resolve... all credit to him and i would say the rematch is a 50/50 that i am greatly looking forward to.

I agree with your statement about the jab, It also seems as if Berto has short arms, and isn't very flexible. Someone else mentioned that he is too muscular, I agree with that, you can't pop that jab if your arms are too tight. Berto might need to hire someone to help him get some flexibility in his body.

Berto just needs to utilize better tactics in a rematch. That is something he can control.

Berto isn't a big puncher but Ortiz's chin is just average at best like Berto's chin. So he can't change that.

Berto's corner is fine too I believe. But he does need to get his brother out of it. Because he was interrupting the head trainer and causing a raucous.

Berto's stamina is also fine. If it wasn't he doesn't survive that fight. What he needs to make sure of in any rematch is that he protects his body better and that he actually mounts a body attack.

The key for Berto in any rematch is staying out of exchanges, utilizing foot work as oppossed to trying to back Ortiz up, taking advantage of a lunging and wild Ortiz, going to the body to sap Ortiz's strength, and staying off the ropes.

These things are tactical improvements. He doesn't have to reinvent the wheel here people.

I was on his FB and mentioned that he should consider getting a trainer that was more defensive oriented about 8 months ago. I said he needed to learn more fundamentals. Trainers are supposed to help the fighter adjust. That didn't happen for Berto, he had no help.

I think Berto needs to learn something new. I really think he would benefit from having a guy like Sweet Pea in hs corner.

Berto gets tagged because of the way he fights. He's basically a little guy, so he doesn't need to stand in front of these 160lb. guys all night. He has the capacity and speed to fight a slick fight, and not many fighters were slicker than Whittaker.

IMO, speed could kill Ortiz, but Berto didn't use his speed to his benefit. Andre just fought a terribly undisciplined fight, and paid the price for it.
