that could have been on his mind during his unimpressive win...or if he would have lost...it could have been on his mind.

    i'm sorry..

he would have lost to mosley plain and simple.

Anybody who has a decent punch and can walk and chew gum can beat Berto. His punch resistance is as bad as his matchmaker has been trying to pair him safe. It's ****ing laughable. They have the whole 140 division on speed dial. The very best? No need.

i dont think berto could handle the southpaw stance to well...against orthodox opponents he'll look better

he's got very good handspeed, he does put his punches together well at times, but i do feel his defense is not that great. that'll be his letdown IMO.

Thank you...Finally someone who knows what the F**K they're talking about. When was the Last time an orthodox fighter fought 3 southpaws in a row...at the Top/Ranked Level? Berto didn't look overly spectacular against neither of them, but he got the win. In fact, he got better the more he faced southpaws. Awful against Collazo, Better vs Urango and SOLID vs Quintana. Imagine him against another orthodox fighter where he can be far more comfortable using his jab and combinations.

This is really a reply/post to Doug.ie. Because it's obvious that no-one else in this thread would truly understand nor comprehend this kind of Boxing Knowledge. Especially to those who thought Berto looked Awful and that Quintana was on his way to a Lop-sided victory...:-(.

Berto needs to honour his fight with Shane. Berto is a decent young fighter who still has alot of flaws in his game but he's nice to watch. The main problem with Berto is his mentality. He's too busy living the life of a primadonna and this reflects in the ring. Against a stud like Shane he wouldnt have time to complain or ***** when things dont go his way. As soon as he's put in with a live body he's going to get KO'ed. That said he doesnt handle the southpaw stance to well because he's to square on. I think he's a guy that has fallen in love with his power and speed.

Berto didn't look to good last night but he was shaking of some ring rust and I believe he was trying to hard to put on a show because of the added pressure of it being a Haiti benefit night type of thing. He wasn't his normal calm self. Instead of picking his shots like he often does he was just loading up at times early on. If you add in the fact that Qunitana is hard to look good against then Berto should be praised for toughing it out and getting the job done. Overall i wouldn't judge Berto's future to much on last nights fight.

Saying that though there are some real flaws he needs to sort out. He is a good fighter with terrific hand speed and decent power and at times, when he puts his shots together and when he is picking nice counters he looks real quality and he would be a handful for most welters. But if he wants to challenge the real elite he does need to tighten up his defense and get an inside game. It's quite odd to see someone who is small with short arms do no in fighting. If he trys to hug Mossley or Pac when in close they are not going to stand for that. They will start roughing him up and letting rip up close.

There also appears to be a few questions marks over his chin as well.

we ve always known berto was a B+ level talent. Shane , floyd and Pac are damn special fighters- all 3 are hall of famers- the kind of boxers that come along every 25 years or so- its just that we got them all at once in this era- and hence every other division is **** as hell as a consequence it seems.

he s an adequaate champ, he ll never been in the same league as the other- but he s ok. i belive there ll be another greater talent emerge and take him out before pac, floyd and shane retire long enough for him to enjoy much of a reign. he s kind of destined to be a in between champ, he wont ever reign long. like a tarver.

I agree Slantone. Berto will probably never be on the level of Floyd, Pac or Shane. It doesn't mean he can't have a successful career though. There is no disgrace at all in losing to any of those three.

The only problem will be some fans reaction. I can see some idiots on here claiming Berto being exposed if he gets beat by either of those three.

Considering his layoff, the mental strain, the toughness and awkwardness of his opponent and his injury, I think he did very well.

People are being critical which probably wouldn't be completely fair if the circumstances for him were perfect, but given that so many things went against him, I think he deserves a fair bit of credit.
