They all have something to lose if they're found to be cheating. A fighter loses his reputation for life and could be banned. Trainers lose their reputation and could be banned. Promoters and governing bodies would be seen as corrupt and lose money because of that. What does Conte have to lose? If he's found to be guilty, so what? He's been proven to be guilty in the past, so he's got little to lose. He should never have been allowed to work in any sport again.
I understand people not liking him, but why would he lie about the tests being easy to pass? He provided substances to athletes which helped them get god knows how many olympic gold medals and didn't show up in tests. He knows better than anyone how easy the tests are to pass. Conte has provided his insight on the scale of the doping problem in sport, and they are no different those offered by other people with a similar history to his. I would trust his diagnosis of the problem more than any fighter, promoter or trainer in boxing right now.
Well, if he's found guilty he would probably find himself back in prison - something none of his fighters would suffer. Do fighters really lose their reputation? In other sports maybe. But Roy Jones will go down in history with little or no mention of his drug use. Same for Tony, same for Mosley . . . They were all able to carrying on earning with their reputation in tact. Roach has a history of his fighters using and promoters and governing bodies have been seen as corrupt for the last 20 years. As if they gave it ****. I am not defending Conte as a character, and I agree that he should have been banned from working with any athlete in any sport - but I think that the input of people like him, Heredia etc are vital in getting an idea of this problem. Pretty much everything he has said on the issue in the past couple of years has been bang on - how much of a joke the tests are, how VADA is better than USADA (I think Peterson would have been fine under USADA), the growing problem of testosterone replacement therapy etc etc.
