I don't think Berto makes it past round 8. I could be wrong but hey, it's an opinion. He wouldn't have a significant speed advantage which he had in all of his fights so far and when he faced a bigger guy in Collazo, he had a lot of problems.
Berto isn't that good and soon enough people will find this out. I used to think he was spectacular until his fights with Collazo, and Urango. He edged out Callazo IMO, but he showed how of a dumb fighter he was by fighting Collazo's fight. Urango was a snoozefest, and Berto acted scared as **** against a 140 pd division guy! His win over Quintana was good, but other than beating PW on a off fight...Quintana hasn't done all that much either. Berto is good, but not that good...At least not yet.
Martinez easily, Berto did not impress me at all against Quintana, he's way too short and heavy filled at 147 to move up effectively and keep his handspeed at 154. If Quintana had a little more power,Berto would have been seeing stars, he bitched and moaned and clowned about legal shots, he acted like a total *****.
Wowww, hold on, let's not get carried away... Berto has gone to superstar level with a win to an inactive, nondedicated/motivated, older fighter. CQ was good a couple years ago, when he fought PW, after that he fought probably only 2 times and to lesser competition, which is definitely not the same..... I remember Berto more for the poor performances b4 against Collazo & even Urango, but some ppl in here would bet their house Berto beats a prime Tyson!!
If people pick Andre Berto to beat the middleweight champion of the world in Sergio Martinez, I guess I could make hypothetical match-ups now with him and guys like Marvin Hagler, Julian Jackson and Gerald McClellan.
Berto is a physical kid with lots of heart and speed, but he is short and in this scenario you would be asking him to move back up in weight...I think Berto will find himself undersized, out muscled and overpowered with his speed advantage all but gone against a guy who is a very smart, crafty, mentally tough and naturally talented fighter. Notice as no point do I say that Mertinez is a better 'boxer'.
