Berto Vs Ortiz was the 2011 FOTY? What about this FIGHT

Ehhh...pretty good fight. Overrated, though, and has been since it happened. (as I've maintained, since it happened)

Two known guys on HBO swapping knockdowns is going to get the casuals all giddy, sure, but it honestly wasn't that great a fight. I'm frankly surprised you think so, being that I know you've seen a good deal of the alternatives up for consideration as 2011 FOTY. :think

 

OK, "tremendous" might be too far. Relative to winning FOTY, it was "solid." (once again, I feel Hernandez vs. Kompayak got overlooked)

I've never hid the fact that I love inside rumbles like it was (Ward/Green is one of my favorite 120-108 fights, for example). I thought Guerrero vs. Berto was an amazing watch. Berto vs. Ortiz was more or less the same with the KD's coming in pretty dramatic sequences.

I think it's far too hipster-ish to talk it down, honestly, but that's just me. Nothing but respect for the fights being listed here!

 

My main issue with Ortiz-Berto was that the pace lessened dramatically and the fight got kind of sloppy in the second half of the fight. If they had kept up the same pace over the second half, then yeah, it would have been worthy of FOTY consideration as compared to the other fights listed.

But in terms of fights that had more consistent action over the course of its duration, there were other fights that were better choices that year.

 

Agree with that. Last 4-6 rounds weren't anything too special (as I said above, I do love clean inside fighting so I still enjoyed it, but yes, your point 100% true)... But then surely you must feel Concepcion vs. Marquez I is highly overstated? Round 1 was classic. The rest of the fight was a beatdown.

Maybe because these two are virtually complete unknowns, not on the world level and foreigners, all I see are two unskilled fighters with no power, no technique and no defense, just a repetitive showing of power punches trading blows, just an idiotic way to "box" compared with Berto vs Ortiz this was less exciting by far imo...

 

Yes, because Ortiz and Berto put on a veritable clinic of technique and defensive skill..

 

For whatever it's worth Take Min Kim will be in action in October on a show set set to be screened on SBS ESPN in Korea. It's the same card as Randall Bailey. It's going to be Kim's first since he was stopped by Ja Ik Goo (who has frustatingly vanished).

 

Popular hype jobs got it
