Berto Was Always Overrated

    For all of the **** Ortiz gets, he's been allowed to lose and get draws.

    Berto has been shielded from these facts of boxing. Whether they fix his gloves when he's injured to buy him time or give him gift wrapped scorecards, he's never had to deal with the consequences.

    Very, very good point.

    I have nothing against Berto at all -- he seems like a good dude. It's not about him, it's about the people trying to use him as a prop. Either for themselves (HBO, Floyd) or against a guy like Pacquiao (haters).

    The fact he was 161 pounds in the ring? He must've killed himself to get to 140? He must still be a growing man... and he seems much more suited for this weightclass. He has a big frame, and we could see him move up even more in the future.

    He was tired. His legs were pretty much shot after the first round, and definitely the sixth round.

    Ortiz was a whirlwind. Props to him.

    I was just busting your balls with the black fighter. But I agree he's a hype job but both are imo. Although ortiz won he was a second away from being tkoed himself. Ortiz clearly had the better skills and is the better boxer

    Well both were over rated. Now they need to face the elite like May and PAC to become elite because were Ortiz stands he is on the brink of becoming elite.

    Agreed. This is probably a better weight for him. He's not a perfect fighter, there are things to work on, but this was an excellent performance for him.

    It's all good, man. You're not the first and won't be the last.

    Here's what I will say, on the whole "racial angle" thing: I don't like anyone, of any background, trying to pretend "their" group are the best athletes, smartest, etc. That bothers me. So, when I hear the whole "Oh, Americans just dont care about boxing anymore" stuff, that annoys me. That I will admit.

    Hey, it was a great fight. As I said, I have NOTHING against Berto. He seems like a really good guy and has big heart. It was never about him for me, it was about HBO and, tonight, Floyd. That was what bugged me.

    I agree. I don't think Ortiz is ready to fight either one of those guys, though. They are on a different level, IMO. Ortiz is still young, though, and he has time to improve.

    But, the money for him to fight one of those two may get him to take the fight before he's ready. We'll see.

    One thing I'll say about Ortiz is that he is a tough dude. So, Pacquiao or Mayweather would have to work hard to get him out of there.

    ??? I don't see how they got punked. Who told you a future fight was in the plans? May and Berto have the same manager and are friends; this was a reason for them not fighting in the past. Maybe he just wanted to watch a good fight? This is possible.

    Mayweather = Scouting out Berto for "super" fight, on HBO, against an undefeated fighter whom he could pitch as a 'threat.' Punked

    HBO = Wanted to set up Mayweather-Berto to help "save" the network's tanking boxing coverage (Pac leaves; Bradley-Alexander a disaster; etc). Punked

    This was a bad, bad night for the three entities mentioned.

    I agree. The guy has been cherry picking for years. Picked up the vacant title, and went after smaller guy after smaller guy. Tried to fight Maidana, picked on Forbes and Urango, and finally thought he was gonna have an easy time with a Jr. Welter in Ortiz. The guy has been reveling in mediocrity for years, and hasn't made any improvements. Athletic and fast and not much else.

    All things considered (and after listening to the commentary) HBO CLEARLY wanted an Ortiz victory. I think that's the fight they want for Floyd, if not a Khan fight. Floyd and Berto would have never happened for 2 reasons:

    1. Al Haymon advises both Berto and Mayweather. He has never had two of his fighters square off against each other. Floyd even allowed Berto to "pick up" that WBC belt and hold onto it. He could have fought him quite some time ago if he ever planned to.

    2. Berto is an orthodox fighter with no real fanbase to tap into. Floyd's people are smart. They know he needs to fight a Southpaw next in preparation for the still prospective Pacquiao showdown. Ortiz and Khan each have a shot at bringing more asses to the seats than Berto would have. Both are young fighters coming off wins with large fanbases to tap into.

    Berto was NOT the fight they wanted. HBO was looking to get Ortiz back into marketable status the first chance they got. Dibella, however, got OWNED.

    I agree, he was always overrated.

    You need more than speed and some power to win against a fighter such as Ortiz.
