There's quite a few similarities. Note I'm not stating any kind of personal opinion, I'm more interested in the similarities between the two fights however. Zaveck is 35 years old. I believe Calzaghe was also in his mid 30's, 34 at the time of the fight. Both Calzaghe and Zaveck are finally stepping up their levels of competition in their mid 30's. Both are/were going against favored, very hyped fighters who are both punchers. Lacy and Berto were both the "future of the sport" prospects to some fans. Zaveck, like Calzaghe, is unknown at large to the boxing public but is said to be an unknown, though very good fighter but a small minority. So, thoughts?
maybe what i will say is berto puts himself in these lose lose scenarios fights ortiz a guy coming off a draw at the weight below a win would do no good and a loss would derail him now on the comeback trail without a tune up face a high risk low reward type berto will gain little from this win or get really tarnished for a loss
Lacy was having trouble really early in his career, if you followed him you knew he stopped progressing early on and started getting in life or death battles with low level competition...That being said, he was still undefeated and still a surprise how easy Calzaghe made it look. Berto is coming off a loss, although he is much more advanced as a fighter than Lacy... I don't see the similarities...
Berto has been dropped by half of the decent fighters he's been in against. Cosme Rivera dropped him for christs sake Berto certainly doesn't have the chin Lacy did, I'll say that much
Calzaghe wasn't a household name, but he was still known by fans who were more than just casual observers, because he had fought on Showtime previously and had long been a reigning champ in the division. While Zaveck on the other is hand has never fought on US television, and is a recent titlist. Plus, Calzaghe had beaten a decent list of contenders and former champions, while the best scalps on Zaveck's record are Rafal Jackiewicz and Isaac Hlatshwayo. Lacy also was much higher regarded than Berto is currently. Especially considering Berto is coming off a defeat to a fighter he was favored to beat, opposed to Lacy who was undefeated and facing Joe fresh off a performance where he demolished Scott Pemberton in two rounds. Can't say that I see the similarities.
sure why not he is hungry and looking to make a splash on TV from my observations the hylatswayo fight only he looks like he can hit and is aggressive berto doesnt like pressure he if zaveck can take bertos punches and handle the punch speed he may cause trouble
Food for thought, Zaveck has supposedly never been down in his pro career. Has a high guard as well. Might be a tough nut to crack.
either way the fight does little to boost berto unless its a war or something where berto proves himself much liek how ortiz proved himself vs berto berto jsut needs to make it look easy zaveck may not be a push over
