Cotto's brother came pretty damn close. The present day Canelo is pumped so full of PED's he pisses straight Red Bull. No one here knows how his career would have turned out had he not stolen JCC Jr.'s thunder and become Mexico's favorite fighter and consequently reaped all of the benefits he has from it, but I guarantee you, on an even playing field he's not 1/16 the fighter he is today, never would have been able to compete at the world-class level above 154, and his power and chin wouldn't have ever transformed into the PED-enhanced storms they are today. Actually, the Canelo who almost got dog-walked by Cotto's brother in under a round is probably the closest any of us get to see of a physically prime and peak Canelo without all the chemical enhancements, but even back then I bet he was still cycling a healthy dose of testosterone a week.

Turning pro when and where he did I'm sure enabled him to start messing around with juice -- possibly from the start of his career. He never would have made it anywhere near any olympic team with the testing they are subject to. After reading that Thomas Hauser article on PBF and the corruption involved with the sports most marketable fighters, I'm really beginning to feel the Olympics are probably the best official bouts to use as a barometer in regards to how good the world's elite are when they all are held to the same standards chemically and thats probably the most even a playing field you can come across.

Mikkel Kessler was a natural SMW and one of it's ATG fighters. He proved himself multiple times on the world-class stage there, and he never came close to receiving any A-side meth like the stuff that Canelo and his career have been framed on. Lay off the pipe bro, it's the ginger clown who's the unproven one between the two at the world-class level, at SMW, and on a level playing field without all of his countless benefits of being Mexico's boxing darling.

People forget what a quality fighter MK was, when he was in full flow he was a fantastic fighter to watch!

Upright, rangy European style somewhat but a smooth, fluid puncher.. Heavy hands,
great engine, pace, nice jab, decent upper body movement, solid footwork... Could mix it up to head & body too! I remember Tarver eulogizing about him once in fact...

Peak Kessler would have beaten up the GGG that Canelo fought... Jabbed & one two'ed him to death! He'd have too much physicality, range & athleticism for a 168 Canelo...

How the fook is cinnamon beating Kessler when a 36/7 yr old GGG (who barely throws anything other than jabs for half a fight these days!) is out landing him in two fight's? LOL

Kessler was a gent, a fighter of integrity too. Can't say the same for Canelo & his golden shower..
