Where does Dennis "The Magician" Milton rate on the thread starter's list? He holds a decision win over head to head monster Gerald McClellan.
Purely Hd 2 Hd all at their best 01 - Sugar Ray Robinson 02 - Marvellous Marvin Hagler 03 - Ezzard Charles 04 - Jake LaMotta 05 - Charley Burley 06 - Carlos Monzon 07 - Randolph Turpin 08 - Bernard Hopkins 09 - Mike McCallum 10 - Marcel Cerdan Did'nt include Greb because there is no footage of him, Roy Jones, Ray Leonard only had one defining fight there so their ratings are more to do with other division's Well thats my quick draft, not fully happy with it, but it'll do for now.
Copy this list, paste it into a Word document, print it out, and wipe your ass on it. :good The very idea of KELLY PAVLIK flying high above Monzon, Jones and Hopkins...
Could you explain Charles as number one? Good list. Do you not think Toney's lack of mobility/ vulnerability to mobile targets a major flaw that would cost him against the very cream of the crop? Could you explain Turpin? I think he is very high. Here is my ten. Basically who I think are the ten best Middleweights I have seen, judging on ability. 1. Ray Robinson 2. Carlos Monzon 3. Marvin Hagler 4. Bernard Hopkins 5. Joey Giardello 6. Dick Tiger 7. Roy Jones Jr 8. Charley Burley 9. Luis Manuel Rodriguez 10. Emile Griffith
Yeah, I do think Toney would come up short against the very best for those reasons. Griffith at ten is a big shout. Tiger aside, who are the guys above him on the list you give him a good chance against? How do you see him going versus Toney Cerdan Hearns McCallum Turpin Zale Fulmer? I don't need you to break down all those fights, which of these guys do you think he's beating?
I thought LMR would be a more controversial pick, or maybe not for those in the know. I think Griffith fares well with LMR, Tiger, Jones and Burley. I can see him out manoeuvring Toney and Cerdan. Stopping Hearns late. Getting beat by Turpin, Zale and Fullmer. McCallum is a toss up, I would favor slightly - Griffith. I think it shows a mobile counter puncher gives him fits.
1. Carlos Monzon 2. Harry Greb 3. Marvin Hagler 4. Sugar Ray Robinson 5. Bernard Hopkins 6. Charles Burley 7. Bob Fitzsimmons 8. Dick Tiger 9. Stanley Ketchel 10. Micky Walker 11. Jake LaMotta 12. RJJ 13. Sam Langford 14. James Toney 15. SRL
I better explain these. vs Burley. I think Griffith's physical strength is a big asset here as he would be able to back up Burley, regulary and would undoubtetly get the best of it inside. On the outside Burley's sharp combinations would have success but I do think Griffith can close him down and apply significant pressure to at least make it a close fight. It should be noted I would think Burley wins by virtue of cleaner shots. vs Jones. Basically, I can see one of Griffith's fast left hooks dropping him, but if not Jones is pretty much one of the worst styles Griffith could face.
