Patterson, IMO, was a great and skilled fighter. His weakness was that he was a native light heavyweight going up against bigger men. This wasn't really a problem in the 50s and 60s when most heavies were 180 lbs to the low 200s. It did become a problem when he came up against big skilled men like Ali and Liston who were in the 210s and considered massive heavies for that time.

The 1990s were filled with heavyweights that were at least 215 pounds and some like Lewis that were a lean 240 something. I can see Patterson beating guys like Stewart, Mercer, Morrison, old Foreman but he would be walking a tight rope in those fights. Old Foreman could still poleaxe Patterson if he caught him clean like he caught Holyfield, Moorer and Stewart. I think Patterson could take Savarese, Buster Mathis Jr and Bruce Seldon.

Damiani, Douglas, Mercer (Maybe only pre Holyfield/Lewis Mercer on a good day), Morrison, Bentt, Hide, Seldon, Bruno, Akinwande.

    Chris Byrd.

    Byrd's speed wouldn't bother Floyd.

Floyd's lead or counter left hook would mess Byrd up.

Byrd liked to tuck his chin in and not block the opponent's left hook (because he usually fought slow heavies), which is how fast-handed Ike demolished him with left hooks.

That's what spelled the end for Holyfield against Byrd, when Evander's left shoulder got tore up by round 2 (requiring surgery). That's the arm he needed.

I have to respectfully disagree with you, I simply cannot fathom Patterson dealing with the cuddling of Akinwande. I reckon poor Floyd eventually succumbs to the crushing pressure exerted by Akinwande as he squeezes the life out of Floyd.

I can't think of one. They were just too big and his chin as just that bad.

Maybe he could blitz Seldon or Morrison, but I wouldn't bet on him.

I would pick Floyd Patterson over Michael Moorer.

He wasn't too much of a cuddler against Schulz, maybe Floyd gets that treatment and Akinwande just throws out his long, lazy arm of the law the whole night as Patterson gets in on him.

Against big punchers like Bruno or Mercer he runs the risk of getting KO ed would be very interesting finding out Floyd could hit hard also !

Ehh initial thought I thought the same but if u can compete w Bonavena and win u can compete w just about anyone in the 90s. But I do have my doubts against some guys.

I think Bruno or Mercer are winnable but dangerous fights for Patterson

Mercer much more dangerous, as he had a chin to back up his strength, whereas Bruno could get blasted by Patterson. The only hope I see for Bruno is either dropping him early or playing it smart and knocking him out after jabbing him with that telephone pole of his (Which Bruno didn't have the tendency to do).
