Moore, Hopkins and the immortal Sweet Saoul Mamby In boxing terms splitting decades into 15 to 25, 25 to 35 and 35 to 45 makes the most sense to me though.Coincides better with when fighters generally have their peak years and physical decline, while also taking into account the old fossils and the young phenoms.
I'm reminded of a funny interview with Cosell and Liston, where Cosell asks Liston his age, and Liston responding with "31" I believe it was, to which Cosell says "still 31?" It's tough to say what his age was but mid-30s around the Ali fights sounds about right to me. Let's not make this yet another Liston age thread though, we've had more than enough of those.
the more i hear about...moore's heavyweight record and post 40 achievements, the more i lean towards him. i like hopkins, not his personality or style but he has unbelievable talent. i just don't see him performing consistently at such a high level as moore
Although you will occasionally find errors, the US Census Records which are done every 10 years are quite revealing... from 1920 show Moore at age 3. So he was born in 1916, not 1913 which is commonly reported. As for Sonny Liston, his family is listed in the 1930 Census but he is not, therefore, he very likely was born in 1932.
