#1 JMM - accurate, timing, purposeful, usually catching/countering
#2 Saul Alvarez - accurate, angular, great up/down or down/up finisher, unconventional combo'r

Yes. The biggest and perhaps only real weakness of Marquez. He is not effective going forward. Painfully exploited by Mayweather. Should be the blueprint how to fight Marquez.

But his combinations, especially when he's throwing them while under fire from his opponent himself, are a thing of beauty.

I like Canelo Alvarez's combos. He always seems to land something meaningfull, especially to the body. Just wish he'd throw more instead of fighting in spots.

I'd go with Pac. JMM/Cotto throws the best textbook combinations, but Pac throws the most akward fast and powerful combinations. I was watching his fight with margo and Jim commented to Steward on how Pac has the ability to alter his punch mid arc to meet the target, its true, he throws weird shots just to redirect his fist and that punch is not in the book. Its not an uppercut/hook/jab/straight, simply a punch.

As for JR claiming pitty patter. lol. If they were, he would be very beatable as fighters would simply walk through them, as it is, it seems any of those punches could potentially knock you down. Just ask JMM. I model my boxing style after Cotto/JMM so those 2 are my favourites for watching combinations thrown.

This thread is really making me consider being a JMM fan and getting his fights lol. It's him especially with his competition. Alvarez hasn't been tested as much as he should yet and Mikey Garcia is still rising up too. Both will be solid combination punchers and hopefully the next Mexican greats.

    It's obviously JMM.

I'll throw my shout-out that everyone hasn't said yet to Robert Guerrero, dude throws proper 3-4 punch combos with good snap and leverage from that big frame. The ones he used to KO Litzau (yeah yeah china chin I know) were a thing of beauty, used them very well against Katsidis also.

Damn I wish we got Guerrero/Marquez for the LW title.
