I say active as a lot of people might say Micky Vann for either best or worse but he has retired under BBBorC at least.
Steve Gray is generally pretty useful, I think. In general though I think the British refs are pretty bad. O'Connor, Foster and IJL are particularly bad. Used to think Victor L was pretty decent but he had a shocker recently
They all have their moments and I think it's a corruption scandal waiting to be exposed. I have given IJL some stick in the past but he has been around boxing at all levels longer than I've been alive and been a boxer himself he has made a huge contribution to the sport. They are under massive pressure so mistakes are inevitable. Maybe exploring some technological improvements in the scoring, judging and refereeing of bouts could help to modernise boxing.
This content is protected Go to 12:33 and the commentators after: "That's called saved by the bell" "No that's called home-town cooking" Cleverly was completely gone, look at his eyes practically shut and looking at the ground as he goes (carried back) to the corner by Terry O'Connor. Agree with Jurgens post.
That act was right up there with his card for Tyson Fury's only loss v John McDermott when McDermott clearly won 98-92. He somehow scored the fight 98-92 Fury. Being the ref. he could not have got these 2 mixed up. That is the worst card ever anywhere.
When I see Foster in the ring, I'm automatically disappointed before a punch is thrown. You just know a poor stoppage is coming. What's worse is he prides himself on being some master referee, who has a gift for knowing when to call a fight off. That couldn't be further from the truth. I'm all for calling off a fight if a sustained beating is taking place. But waving it off as soon as a guy is buzzed is shocking. Fighters recover all the time. They put their heart and soul into training camp, sacrificing it all at times. They deserve a chance to recover. Foster doesn't give it to them.
