Best: Lost soul of eamon Magee Mans world Emile griffith Shitest Making haye with David haye Dog**** read by some 18 yo fanboy who hung around Hayes dressing room. Couldn’t read beyond 20 pages it was that pants. Over to you.
I've read a few over the years. The best was probably Cyclone: My Story by Barry McGuigan. Not that it was amazing, just the best of the few I remember. A decent read. The Big Fight by Sugar Ray Leonard was also decent. The Cobra: My Story by Carl Froch was probably the worst. Wasn't terrible, still an entertaining enough read, but not great.
Manos Di piedra (think thats rights, its translates as hands of stone) - roberto duran biography. Frank Brunos was suprisingly good. Sugar ray leonard’s was good. Theres a book about journeymen that is brilliant forgot the title though. Curtis woodhouse book was entertaining Ricky hatton book was a bit dross to be honest, just a load of storys how he was brilliant at losing weight and the ref for mayweather was crap
Read quite a lot but the ones that stand out are... Trials Dixon - road to nowhere Michael Gomez’s Eamon Magee’s Mike Tyson’s all very good. Not really read any stinkers that I can think of
Unforgivable Blackness is a must read. I also liked John Duncan's "In the red corner" as he uses his trip to Cuba to organise a Savon/Tyson fight as a pretext to explore Cuban boxing under Castro.
Johnny Nelsons was good, Benn, Watson and Eubanks were all interesting as they covered my era . Brunos latest very good. Gomez was superb, my favourite is 4 Kings Wasn't a big fan of Mamas Boy about Lennox Lewis . Have pre ordered "teach yourself plumbing" by David Price
Excellent call, a brilliant book. Just little things like Hearns/Leonard nearly happened in 77/78 really added to the story of four icons.
I didn't really think much of Hatton's book either. Felt like half the book was taken up from him going into unnecessary detail about what happened in his fights. Like a punch by punch description e.g I hit him with a left hook to the head, then the body, he then landed a jab, then I landed one....zzzzz.
I forgot about Johnny Nelson. That was a very funny and inspirational book. Jack Johnson’s was excellent too. The brass balls on that guy! Barney eastwoods book was a stinker. Binned it.
Dog Rounds by Elliot Worsell is an amazing read, tough but a must for any boxing fan. About interviewing boxers who have killed in the ring and how it changes them.
