GGG obviously hits hugely hard to the body, hence why most of his sparring partners have to wear body protectors when they spar him and he broke the ribs of both George Groves (sparring) and Matthew Macklin and stopped Kovalev with one in the gym too. Also numerous CWs and HWs have said they really felt his body shots in sparring too. This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
Oh, i wasnt saying that its his bread and butter. I just wanted to highlight that he is among the top guys.
The face of a guy on his knee trying to get up before the count. That grimace when he is still slightly bent telling the referee he is ok and able to fight... and u know it wont last long. Lejarraga vs Skeete last week was a sample of this. This content is protected
I feel you, I actually don’t think he is among the top guys personally. Maybe if he committed more to it, I would agree with you but I just don’t think he does it often enough to put him up there. I could name another 3 or 4 names who invest the body more often than Loma. Beterbiev, Vargas, Salido, Walters, Berchelt, etc
Hmm, i agree. While i think he does it better than the guys you mentioned, they are more committed to it. But the Russell fight was a damn clinic in body punching. Brutality at its finest.
I would have to rewatch that again coz I haven’t seen that in years. So in terms of the Russell fight I can’t disagree but the Martinez, Rigo, Marriaga and Walters fights, he didn’t really display a committed body attack.
It used to be Golovkin before Jacobs, Canelo, Inoue, Ruvingsai, Gassiev, Kovalev and Benavidez are up there too. However my pick is Errol Spence, he is the only one that used body shots to win his biggest fight.
If Inoue can beat McDonnell later on this month using body shots, then he will be at the top of the list.
