Eddie Mustafa Muhammad deserves a shout. Most outstanding body punchers do their work on the inside. Eddie was a rare example of somebody who could take apart an opponent downstairs with an attack from long range, and from an upright position, rather than ducking underneath. Robinson did everything well. Bodywork and infighting was no exception. Today, anybody can go to youtube to watch and hear him whack repeated hard rights thudding into the ribs of Bobby Dykes. Robby could score knockdowns against lesser competition with a jab to the solar plexus. Because of his relative lack of power, Jimmy Young's body punching gets overlooked, but he was highly proficient at it, and used it to good effect on Foreman. Fitzsimmons, Jeffries and Dempsey should not be overlooked. Jeff was filmed breaking Gus Ruhlin's ribs with his left and Tom Sharkey's ribs with his right. Dempsey was filmed saving his title by dropping the rock hard Bill Brennan for the count with body shots. While Frazier and Duran are frequently regarded as the two best body punchers of the classic 15 round era, Arguello may be the most precise one of his era. After Rosario-Ramirez I, Ramirez was adamant that Rosario was a harder puncher than Arguello. But Alexis was a marksman with an uncanny ability to strike an opponent's vital regions on the head and body.
Glad to see Luis get a mention, he is really undersold and neglected by most when it comes to name a fighter who excelled at punching to the body, he was superb in that regard and very consistent as well. Another name that deserves a mention would be Myung Woo Yuh, excellent body puncher imo he was.
Alfonso Sanchez was a hot prospect and legit contender when Ward ended that fight with one body punch. In fact Sanchez was beating up Ward pretty bad up to that point and winning every round. Sanchez was a big puncher and much better than C level competition.
I'm in need of more culture ... But I am truly sickened by Cottos style of breaking down the body(pre Marg). He is from another era and it's a shame there arn't that many body breakers in his division(s) to further solidify that. Duran Frazier Ricky Hatton smashing Luis Castillos ribs comes to memory of a good body punching display
Barry McGuigan ,who gets a lot of stick on here, was a very good bodypuncher, his left hook to the floating rib was a crippler.
