I have Jack Dempseys one and 'Successful Boxing' by Andy & Jamie Dumas (Both Amazon). I have to say as a beginner I find myself coming back to Dempsey's. I can see why it is so highly rated. He breaks things down to the basics, How to punch, where the power comes from, which knuckles to be landing with etc etc........my only gripe is that the language used is a bit antiquated and that the style of boxing (from what I can ascertain as a beginner) has changed a bit since his time. I get the feeling reading it that he was very much going for the knock out punch (being smaller than a most of his opponents) most of the time.

Having spent quite a long time searching, I think there is definitelty room in the market for a book which has all the basics of Dempsey's, but more up to date , it may be out there but I haven't found it yet.

I love books and I 100% agree that there is room for another good boxing book on fundamentals and training. However, the major obstacle is the market. Boxing is a hands-on activity and most people would rather learn it at a gym, rather than in a book. As a result, the vast majority of the best selling boxing books are biographies(Duran, Atlas, etc) and/or history related(Remnick, Sugar). Not to mention the fact that most people who are qualified to write a book like this probably aren't the literary types...with the exception of Atlas and Wlad. All that being said, I do believe Wlad is an ideal candidate to write one. He's educated and has been exposed to the best training money can buy. Let's see if he does:thinking:.
