I'm new to this thread and always wanted other true boxing fans opinions into who is the greatest of this generation, Personally I'll go with mayweather, the guy has the total package and is one of the best boxers of all time !
well if we're defining this generation as post roy jones (ok I'M defining it as such) than I think the most technically skilled boxer is mayweather, the best fighter is manny pac.
shoooooooooocking of the amount of credit being given to floyd! As if he hasnt done enough to be proven as the best boxer not only at this day and age but of this era, if he EVER faces and beats pacquiao I'm sure people will still doubt his legacy. Personally I would love to see Mayweathers career develop with a win over one of the top middleweights - williams/martinez, leading up to a fight with pacman, and finally beating the top lightwelterweight at that time who I presume will be Timothy Bradley ! If floyd next 3 fights turn out like that I'm sure I wont be the only one saying that he isnt just the greatest of this generation but the greatest of all time :yep !
yup and if sergio martinez had a time machine and went back to beat sugar ray robinson and harry greb at 160, terry norris at 154 and knock out joe louis in 1938 he'd also be considered one of the best 1)those two scenarios are equally likely 2)we can only judge someone on who they do beat not they could beat. year long lay offs, following 2 year long lay offs don't enhance your legacy
its like this: 60's Ali, 70's duran, 80's leonard, 90's jones jr, 00's pacquiao based on resume. If floyd had not retired he would probably been number one but now i think you have to give it to pac based on how he finished the decade.
