He was Knocked out by Floyd though. He avoided Floyd at jrWW twice as well. And since there was new blood in that division, Hatton's reign now at that point was questionable. Who was the last top guy Hatton fought at 140? It certainly wasn't Lazcano and Paulie was not better than Bradley no matter what people want to say. A fight with Paulie proves nothing. You have to remember, that Hatton can be ranked #1 in that division but still not be the best...and especially remember that when matched up against a fighter, he is still a person that was KTFO by Floyd and looked terrible against Lazcano who did come to fight. Paulie isn't going to test you. And, Roach even said Hatton was past it and Floyd took it out of him. An Undefeated Pre-Plastered Cotto beat Mosley in a close decision at 147/no catchweights. Pac beat a Post-Plastered version of Cotto at a catchweight a couple of years later.
you had lost your sense of time, pac had already done that. just 2 years ago, pac was fighting at 130 and paul williams now is like his hatton and cotto before. so what has hearns and robinson got to to with this? pac and floyd are the 2 best of these generations so quit whining. the thread was asking who are the best of these generations and not of all time.
:huh Had already done what? Paul Williams is comparable to Hatton and Cotto now??? Not sure I'm reading you right so I'll just respond the way I want. Paul Williams beat Margarito when he was Champion, while he had plaster and before he was KO'd by Shane. So, Paul has a one-up already. Paul moved up because he wasn't getting the big fights but kept one foot in the division just in case he could. Why is Pac fighting what's left of Margarito? And why is boxing even allowing this for some b.s. paper title belt? Williams has continually called out Pac and others to make this fight happen. Pac could have made it at 147 and he certainly could have made it now that he is moving up to jrMW, although Pac wants a catchweight..but Williams said he didn't mind. At 154/jMW, although Pac still wouldn't do the max weight limit at jrMW, he still could have fought Sergio Martinez who is better than Margarito as well. So why not Martinez? Bull**** Paper title + Washed up Margarito + avoiding the best = false legacy build-up Point with Hearns and SRR: I just don't want people to think that just because Floyd and Pac are winning titles in this division, just because they are fighting in this division, that they are actually great in this division. They are lucky they are in an era that doesn't have these two beasts in it. It's easier to capture a title in an era with more belts and lesser competition than SRR and Tommy Hearns. I'm sick of Floyd too so don't worry...it's both.
i will make it simple for you to understand ok? 2 years ago pac was fighting at 130. and the prospect of fighting hatton, cotto, osar and floyd was laughable. so in essence what you are suggesting now that pac should fight williams, he already done before. if you still won't get it, you have some issues my friend and not even your long and winding post would not matter much.
I voted Oscar De La Hoya even if it might be debatable. He achieved everything, amateur and pro, he faced everone and built an outstanding resume, but as the internet forum era broke loose after the Tito fight and the average age of boxing fans dropped somewhat, the more successful half of DLH's career has been ridiculously forgotten and he's now remembered as a fighter "who never won a big one". What a joke that is!
Pac was fighting at 130 and blowing up in weight by fight-time. Floyd was fighting on fight-night below 150. If you compare that to Floyd, Pac should have been in Floyd's division long ago and this fight could have been in negotiations long ago. No what you don't get is that Pac is fighting in Williams division(s) of WW and JrMW and Pac is not taking on the toughest fights. Instead, he is circling around the Williams fight. What don't you get? And don't bring up the weight bull**** because if you really want to get down to it, Pac doesn't hold anything on some fighters from back in the day that were small and fought everybody despite height/weight. And let's not get into my discussion on why the HWs are better.
Manny Pacquiao, the greatest fighter of this last decade. Up to Floyd to prove people wrong but ***** don't want it.
Pac avoids the best in the divisions he is currently fighting and he did it in the past. Bottom line. If he is good enough to fight names like Oscar {dead} he was certainly good enough to fight a Past Prime Shane Mosley, was he not? Or are you on board with Roach saying, Shane was "to good" ? If he is good enough to fight for a title at JrMW, although at a catch-weight, he is good enough to fight the best in Sergio Martinez and Paul Williams, is he not? Why continue to give him a pass if you want it to add to his legacy? Height and Weight: Sam Langford, Barbados Joe Walcott...all fought bigger men, Heavyweights, despite their size and their opponents size. SRR was also out-weighed in fights. Many have been. And for HWs, whole different ball-park. No care of height/weight.
But if Pac had fought Bradley in May '09, everyone would've said he ducked Hatton because Hatton was the division's number 1 at the time, so a fight with someone as untested as Bradley would be considered a cherrypick. And if Pac had beaten Mosley, people like you would've said Pac ducked Cotto because Cotto beat Mosley. Yawn.
Not true with Shane and Cotto given Cotto's title was lost to Plaster-Boy who was destroyed by Shane. So "The Title," the #1 fighter at WW, was Shane Mosley. Cotto was now a Post-Plastered fighter which wasn't the same fighter Mosley fought. Again, I mentioned this before. You fight "The Man" in the division and Shane was the man because he beat the man who beat the man. Just like Evander fought Douglas after Douglas KO'd Tyson. You fight Douglas first and then Tyson if he is still around. So, Pac should have fought Shane first and then if he wanted, fought what was left of Cotto. Hatton: A bit different because Hatton was still able to keep his titles at 140 given the fight with Floyd was at 147. However, I don't think Hatton proved himself to be the best anymore at 140 given the rising stars, like Bradley, who now held a title as well. However, I completely understood why Pac took the fight and can agree with it. However, it is arguable if Hatton was still the best and they did pick on Hatton that was KO'd by Floyd and looked terrible against Lazcano instead of facing off against Shane Mosley who wanted that fight which was legit considering Pac fought Oscar at 147. And now, what is the excuse for fighting a Post-KO'd, Post-no-hand-wraps Margarito at jrMW at a catch-weight for a paper title with some people claiming this adds to his legacy because it is another title in another division? Just remember, there are better fighters at JrMW, more deserving fighters at JrMW, than what is left of Margarito. As well as there being more divisions and more belts today than there were in the past.
