I think the 2 Irishmen, Jerry Quarry and Sean O'Grady were the best I heard. I was a little disappointed on how weak Carlos Palomino was when he was commenting on the Sanchez-Gomez fight. Considering he was an actor and had also taken lessons, his delivery was poor and he really had nothing useful to offer in form of commentary. Larry Holmes was also on that fight and he was really hard to understand most of the time. Don't know if either of them ever did any other fights.
Gabe Rosado is a really good commentator imo. You can tell he knows what he's talking about but he isn't an asshat about it. I actually quite like Shawn Porter as a commentator honestly. Chris Algieri can sometimes get himself too caught up in stories he buids around fights but he has a good voice for commentary and a good eye for technique and strategies, pointing them out in a pretty casual way. Seneisa Estrada is a very bad commentator though. Her and Christina Poncher drained Teraji-Canizales of so much drama with their dry, lifeless calls.
Quarry, Leonard, and Jones were superb commentators. Jones in particular had keen insight when it came to breaking down the style clash, habits, and mentality of the boxers he was watching on the fly even when he didn't know who they were.
Marvin Hagler wasn´t too bad. I remember him during the 1st Bobby Czyz-Prince Charles Williams (mentioned in another thread today) and he was insightful. The man Hagler beat for the title, Alan Minter, was also pretty good too. RIP to both great champs.
I always thought Lennox would be good until he got on. I didn't realize he was gonna smoke before work.
Nobody has mentioned Tex Cobb. In addition to being hilarious, he was actually a really good commentator. Not sure why he stopped doing it.
I agree with Sean O'Grady and Antonio Tarver. Tarver was a very good announcer on Showtime for a period of time. He was also scheduled to be one of the announcers on the Olympic Boxing broadcasts on NBC. But I think he got fired from both for testing positive for steroids after a fight. Showtime bounced him. So did NBC. O'Grady was very good and could also be pretty funny. He never ran down any fighters that I can recall. Seemed to respect most. And he boxed for most of his life. So he knew everything.
Nice call on Czyz, he was good. I guess my favorite was O' Grady. Roy and Foreman could have good moments though and I did like Ray Mancini on occasion.
